I know in the press release it was alluded to that some operations will stay in Sidney. Really? What sense would that make for anything other than maybe a DC? Why would anyone have any part of their main operation more than 1000 miles from HQ? Part of the problem in Sidney, even when we were a booming company, is that nobody wanted to move here. I don't see any reason for that to be different now, unless you want a REALLY cheap, nice house, on the middle of nowhere. People aren't going to wait to see if BP keeps us around. I bet most are already looking for new jobs which corp couldn't be happier about because that's less severance they have to pay next Spring. Maybe.

Sidney people and Cabelas employees believe Tommy Milner has lied to them for months.
Possibly. But you have to remember that BP already has their stores stocked with employees, sooo....
Will we be able to transfer to a BP store next year if we want to relocate? Or do you think BP will try to discourage long term Cabelas employees from staying on? Love the idea that I could have a BP job waiting for me in Florida via transfer if I wanted to move.
I like bass pro and liked cabelas a long time back, but the layoff last year was the best day of my tenure at cabelas, I was sooo happy to receive the RIF offer. I saw it coming and was happy for the exit option. what a cluster the last two years had been up until that point. all the "company values" had been abandoned, dishonesty and mistrust were the new norm, and too many good people had bus tire tracks across their backs. the ones appointed to steer the ship had no business cleaning toilets, much less trying to run the business. leading up to last Sept and up to this point, outfitters have been told it is all good, nothing to worry about.
if they are still serving that Kool-Aid and you are believing it, get your head out of the sand.
There is no business purpose to have any "operations" other than the DC and the retail store in Sidney, and those are even questionable in the long run. BP bought CAB for the hunting and camping customer list to market to, remaining inventory to discontinue/rebrand, and retail stores which some will remain, others will not due to market saturation, that is all, not for the outfitters well being.
why would they want to manage two IT environments, do separate inventory planning, procurement, and distribution operations, the outsourced catalog will not be necessary any longer, the product planning will be absorbed don't need two of those functions, don't need two retail planning groups, BP has digital marketing and all the other retail functional areas, they won't need duplication of these, especially the dysfunctional ones of CAB.
sure it will take 6 - 9 months to transition and cut over, if you're in a mission critical role, you may last longer. the Ozarks is a very nice place to live. Good luck.
Regardless of the turnout we are staying in Sidney and remaining loyal to Cabela's (Or should we say "Bassela's" ha). It's not like we have family (they relocated us years ago) or bought a house (we rented) here. Lucky us! Ride or die!
BP is NOT moving to Sidney. As things get ironed out logistically its just a matter of time. Anyone who doesn't believe that is a fool.
Amen! to both of the replies.
The press release stated a presence in Sidney. That could be a sign, or retail store. Why would BP move headquarters from MO to Sidney. Hourly employees should start looking for jobs now - don't wait until layoff.
Believe it? Nope. Not a smart financial decision. Worst culture decision they could make. Anyone higher than hourly or low level salary will need to be in Springfield so they can be properly assimilated. The calming kumbaya press release is to keep us working and hoping. The notion of a "merger" vs an acquisition is wording to keep employees and customers from freaking out. But even with the carefully selected words that might be misinterpreted, Morris has shared more honesty in one press release and one letter to his employees than we've seen from our leaders since March, 2015.
