they posted a WARN notice and then let everyone go within a couple of hours. I wasn't sure of the technicalities, but assumed everyone was still officially on payroll for the 2 months.

Interesting insight copied from a different thread:
This is one way to get around the WARN act. This is how it has happened in the past:
Rather than give employees 60 day notice, NetApp changes their working status. Come RIF day, those lucky souls affected will be notified that they are still technically employed by NetApp for the next 60 ish dsys, but their status is something like "Not Working.". They are not allowed to work, but they will still receive full paychecks and benefits.
After the 60 ish days are up, they will then become officially unemployed. They will receive their severance checks, which will vary based on their position, vacation acrual and tenure etc. I think it was something like 3 weeks pay plus an additional week for every year served, up to a max of 12 weeks pay.
Not much solice if you're on the list, but if you get cut in November you'll actually still be employed with benefits through the first week of January. Merry Christmas from George Kurian.
No one's hiring around the holidays, so try and make the most of a bad situation.
Watch November 3rd .... and remember the pattern.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q11ium_-Lv8
Early nov...
Any updates? I'd it tomorrow?
sounds like its on oct 12... manager hasn't checked or given work for 2 weeks
Not that it matters but Employee appreciation for Wichita really is next week. Probably different for each site.
No concrete information except for a lot of "feelings".
Typically the layoffs occur right before an all hands. So go back a week from the next all hands. Which is early November.
Employee Appreciation Week is not Oct 17-21 as someone reported here;
it was last week, Oct 3-7. It has already gone by.
Someone share some concrete information...
1st week of nov ..
This week sounds believable. Employee appreciation week is the 17-21 so they probably should go ahead and get rid of the unappreciated. Wouldn't want them getting the wrong idea.
E-series, CSD, Logistics, start notifications tomorrow. Directors notified changes need to be completed by end of quarter.
I can again with a 100% certainty tell you it will not be on Nov 6
November 6th then ;)
I can tell you this for sure. The layoff is definitely not on Nov 5.
Winter is coming
There aren't rumors of another layoff. It was stated in a publicly released transcript of an earnings call that there will be layoffs. Rumors by definition aren't verifiable. This imminent layoff is fact.
It's November 5th...
It's November 4th..
It's November 3rd..
It's the poorest of poor management. If you need to do a layoff you get it done and let those still with the company know that they can relax for at LEAST the next full year. Otherwise, the cloud of uncertainty and low morale continue to kill productivity. Only a dope would let rumors of continued layoffs negatively affect employees. I guess that dope would be GK...
Seniors know it all. Your are just a number for them. I have never worked for a company which treated people just like numbers,
I wish some seniors read this. Its so frustrating to not know about your future and extremely hard to focus in such an environment. If they want to do it, they should do it asap or declare that it wont be done.
Manager asking me to try to finish some work this week itself. Dunno if that is just a coincidence. Look out for signs like these. Is your manager trying to get to know "where you are currently with your work items"? Those might be the giveaways.
October, November, next year, never ! Already bought, about to be ! So much uncertainity in this company and they want is to stay focus, comon ! It's being only a couple of years that i'm working for NetApp, and so fait it is my worst experience. No plan, no strategy, non even a clue of what might come in next months. Time to move on.
November more likely.
