I have no reason to doubt your impression of the other majors, 3hdj. All, including Chevron, are the product of bureaucracy and human failings (and a few triumphs, of course), so the odds are pretty good that Chevron might not be the worst. For the majority of my Chevron career, I was lucky enough to be assigned to field operations, gas plants, production facilities, etc. The people I met and worked with, at those locations,... fantastic! BUT,... toward the end of my career, and once, in the middle of it, I worked at HQ, and STILL, every once in awhile, I'll recall one (of the many) stupendously stupid things I witnessed, there. Just bone chillingly idiotic. And yet,... there was NEVER any accountability, and therefore, no change in behaviors. Otherwise,... it was like free Bubble Up and rainbow stew!

I've worked for quite a few majors, and compared to Chevron, they mostly blow. Chevron has much better benefits, lay-off packages, insurance, pension, and management, just to let you know - that's how bad I found the other places.

The closer you work to "the wellhead", the better place Chevron is, to work. Move toward HQ? "Weird" doesn't even do it, justice! I worked with a few Independents, prior to my career with Chevron, and compared to them, Chevron literally blows (but, Chevron DID provide a degree of stability that was lacking with the Independents). Compared to other majors,... Chevron probably STILL blows,... don't know. My lasting impression is: I'm just so very, very happy to be gone. There're a lot of great folks working at Chevron, but a lot of seriously twisted puppies do, too.

Why do I frequent this site when I am not a Chevron employee? There appears to be more drama with this company than with reality tv. Many of us from other companies constantly check on this site for our daily laugh. What's laughable is the inside information that should be confidential yet is mentioned here.

-1abu, why would you be wasting your time visiting this site if you're not with Chevron? What peeks your interest perusing this site if you have no skin in the game?

Or may the people here are the ones who did not fit in at Chevron... and thus were laid off?

That's right, OP. You get to know on this board much how the people are like at Chevron. Mostly self-centered and not very empathetic toward anyone else. It's all one big facade over here. You will be fine if you don't lose sight of that fact.
