The average troop in the trench churning out beautiful data ( we do still do that FYI ) and bringing in those precious dollars is now a rare commodity at ION. The mid, lower-upper, mid-upper, higher upper and senior management structure that the fore-mentioned troop has to contend with is completely out of control. I'd estimate for every troop doing the work there may be 3-5 people ( managers / sponges ) associated with said troop, most of which could not do the job of the troop if needed. Out of control, top and middle heavy organization headed for chapter 11.....

Yes, work on my little troops. Please believe me that ION will survive and conquer all needs set forth by our customers. Yes we will sell them lofty goals that we can only achieve through wasting countless hours of troop work. If there is a rival company touting technology that we don't have, we'll tell them ours is better. How you ask, by asking them to believe us with no factual evidence. Yes it's the biglyest, most fabulous, software on the market. Thanks troops for lining my felt pockets on my suede pants with the fruits of your under compensated labor.
Work hard this weekend troops so I can enjoy myself.
You do that, worthless sponge!
Think I will continue to kiss a$$, do nothing, and enjoy it while it lasts.
We feel for you managers it sounds so tough for you, now - pick up a mouse, keyboard and get to work - all hands on deck if we are going to save this company.

It's tough on us managers in a top heavy organization like this. We need to compete with others in similar positions to keep our positions, or simply kiss a$$ which is not good. We are powerless, useless, and frustrated, but there is nowhere to go.
In a lean organization, managers are expected to deliver results and keep their teams running smoothly. In a top heavy organization, we worry more about managing and less about delivering actual results. This leads to us micromanaging our teams to justify our position to our multiple bosses—which is bad for workers and their productivity.
