ITT Technical Institutes Massive Employee Elimination - LAYOFF July 15, 2016

There was a massive nationwide layoff at 133 ITT Tech Institutes Friday, July 15, 2016 in the Recruiting Dept down to only 2 remaining reps from Dept sizes of 5-17. Budget reasons for Deposits, reserves needed for Department of Ed to pay back Student Loans. Initiated back to charges, the push to eliminate non-profit schools, and accrediting body ACICS not having licencing renewed coming up.

Worked as a rep in SCal campus a few years back - remember sitting in a staff meeting where they played a video from HQ where Modany 'big' plan to turn things around (stock price back then was still in the mid-20's) was to invite GOP members of Congress to visit local campuses as a way to beat back the Dept of Ed's 'gainful employment rules.' Please look up his compensaton over the years to see how he will fare compare to the thousands of employees who have lost their job now tha this company is now closed.

I've heard that even those who have been kept aren't too sure that they'll be around much longer...I'm sure that ITT will get a few students to give tours in exchange for SPE's...I was one who was part of the massacre...I'm being looked at as a victim for working there...at least I could take the positive that there are employers out there who treat their charges better...and that talking to someone who didn't want to talk to me was something I learned...

Lasted for little over three months. First month worked on modules as a admissions representative and worked hard to get certified. I passed. I did the normal admissions representative duties. One word about the leads...WOW. Then I had to get recertified. Worked and finally enrolled one student for the new quarter. Success! Then, I got cut along with three others in a team of seven for recruitment. I had fun and worked hard. I would like to add, we had a town hall meeting with someone, VP level, in corporate. I asked in private how to explain the stock price under $2.00 when company once at about $135 per share then about $65 per share a year later. He gave me a typical HQ answer...In short, I had fun while it lasted.

update from : http://myittexperience.com/Archive_16.html

I was an Admissions Representative (glorified telemarketer) for about three years at a Southern California campus.

As of 7/18/16, ITT laid off almost every representative at all campuses. The letter from corporate stated that they were only keeping three reps per campus, due to them transitioning to a national call center for all appointments to be made. Among the layoffs, in addition to the reps, were FACs, Chairs, and even Deans.

It's no secret that this school is a complete joke; thriving on mostly low-income students and their financial aid money. The main objective for us Admissions Reps was to get butts in seats. The school couldn't care less about "bettering their lives" or whatever BS they spit out. It was so sad how we had to call leads 3 times a day, every day. I don't know about you, but that's harassment. Not to mention once the student applied and enrolled, we had to hold their hand all the way up until their first day of class. We even had to wait out in front of classes with a clip board making sure they arrived.

We spent most days cold calling people who inadvertently clicked on something online which gave us their information. If we were lucky enough to score an appointment, we were told to make it within 3 days - same day if possible. This is most likely due to the fact that the higher ups know they will have the opportunity to research how much this school s---s. It was nothing more than a sales job. We were expected to have them apply AND get them through financial aid on the first visit. They didn't want any prospective student walking out without submitting an application. There's a 100% acceptance rate. As long as you have a pulse, are a citizen or permanent resident, and not in default on any federal student loans, you can get "accepted" into ITT.

We were trained to basically tell the prospective student how much their current situation s---s and how much they NEEDED to go to ITT, although the school masked this practice by saying we were getting their "motive" as to why they needed to continue their education. Since most of the students who came through didn't have any prior college education, they bought into it. All of the students I enrolled who had previously gone to traditional colleges ultimately dropped out of ITT after one quarter, citing the horrible curricula and inability to overcome the rowdy classroom atmosphere. We were instructed to not give the most basic information over the phone (program cost, class schedule) because the idea is to get the student into the campus and then trap them with the sales pitch.

I can go all day about how horrible this place s---s, but the truth is by the time I finish writing this, another campus will be closed. Corporate greed and lack of genuine concern for the students has finally done this company in. Right now, it's just a matter of squeezing every last cent into their pockets before they are force to close every campus.

"I worked as a Campus Director at ITT and can verify that the business practices at HQ are deceptive, I got out"...Glad you survived with some sanity. Our campus director really tried to make it a better place for students and staff, but the relentless pressure from HQ really deflated her best efforts. They should put her in charge at HQ & things would be 50x better. We had some really good grads who got good (& good paying) positions, but those success stories were heavily diluted by HQ insistence that we must arm-twist even uninterested people into becoming students--with woeful results.

I worked as a Campus Director at ITT and can verify that the business practices at HQ are deceptive, I got out and am so glad I did. When you work there "fear" is a motivator by HQ, and HR HQ lives in fear of employee lawsuits only. The concept of what is best for students NEVER was a part of the culture that I saw. Students - PLEASE don't depend on their name brand degree to serve you well, as it will not!

"Representatives were just glorified telemarketers in the eyes of HQ. The Corporate approved PowerPoint Sales Presenation did all the work for you"

Welcome to the club! Still wondering why so many faculty are disgusted with headquarters? Faculty have been treated like trained monkeys for years! Toss us a few bananas -- we should be grateful!

Supposedly all faculty have to do, for ITT-Tech students to be successful, is to do series of essentially brainless activities: deliver the provided curriculum package, show students videos from the distance learning website, grade with the special rubrics, run multiple choice exam answers sheets thru the scantron. Oh, and do our share of calling students, making S3 entries, etc. That's important!

Headquarters has no interest in maintaining a core of experienced faculty. They riffed most of the full time academics years ago. Many posts on this forum, over the past couple months, have already covered this topic ad nauseum.

Wow, it will be so easy for ACICS to dump ITT-Tech on its a_s. IMHO, ITT-Tech's policy of having adjunct to full time faculty ratio of 20 to 1 is going to bite them big time. ACICS accreditation criteria says colleges need academic stability, a solid faculty core, and the need for reasonable retention strategies to keep experienced faculty loyal. ESI under Modany seems to be completely ignoring this and plenty other ACICS criteria.

Representatives were just glorified telemarketers in the eyes of HQ. The Corporate approved PowerPoint Sales Presenation did all the work for you and is all you needed to convince someone to invest 46k in an Associates Degree. (By the way, what bullshit, does this sound right? A dependent student who has parents with Good Credit payed more for their education, than a dependent student with parents who had sh--ty credit.) Now that inquiries are coming thru a National Call Center, those poor bastards at the call center will be the focus of all those number chrunchers (ever see the movie "Boiler Room", where the new employees made the appointments for the closers) over in Indianapolis. To the Ultra Micro-Managers at HQ and at the District level Reps were just an employee number to them. PPE's, Boardroom reports, ASR's, Tapit, and Orientation trackers, these management tools are going be so much easier to read now that there are only two to three Reps at each campus. What a joke and recipe for failure. The good people still employed at the campuses, need to think hard about what's waiting around the corner.

We had someone who was out on a vacation day. Called her in so they could be layed off!!

"A layoff like this had to be months in the making"

....really years, if you think about it

"My director claims he had no idea"

....HQ likes to keep a tight lid. Long ago I tried to get a hold of someone at HQ and found she had just been dismissed the day before. I spoke to her dept head instead, who didn't know until the employee was packing their stuff. I called back a few days later with some questions & couldn't get the dept head either--she was now gone!

Beth Mendes has been with ITT Tech since back when it was a real college with academic standards.

I wonder if she is oblivious to the fact that the schools have changed to the point of being nothing more than diploma mills selling a terrible product at a grossly inflated price?

Apparently it's our regional director that requests that. I'm now nothing but a glorified receptionist on Saturday's. There's no belief of a work/life balance and then they might wonder why there's so many employees on medical leave due to stress. I really hope my students will qualify for loan forgiveness once this money hungry company shuts down!!!

Our campus met its goal for the first time in two years and after a week of celebration they eliminated over half of our reps and our DOR just happened to have a another job waiting for him while the rest of were left with the decision to accept a severance pay which amounted to one single paycheck or accept a role in the CCC with headquarters. Our campus only enrolled 15 students last quarter and just fired all but two reps based on tenure. Horrible college they prey on the poor and uneducated and do not value anyone or anything. I regret to say I worked for this company. Beth Mendez thinks her corporate model of a CCC in Carmel is going to keep ITT alive is insane. She's the biggest dike in the world. Goodbye

It is what you call 'Karma'. I pity the students who will be let down when the school finally shuts down. I worked for ITT close to 24 years. It was really good before Modany took over. I got RIF'd on the spot, got my severance pay (which is meager for the length of my service to them) and moved on. To those who are still there, take your 401K out before there is nothing left for retirement. ITT stock is going down and who knows what will happen to your nest egg!

Post ID: @2uut+IrJ00Un

Been with the company for a year and have had to lay off about a dozen people in that time, most of which were honest, hardworking folks who actually did care about the students succeeding.

During that time I've seen failed recruitment and academic initiatives, sloppy implementation, and inane policy decisions that only serve to exacerbate an already unstable structure.

Those of us still there who are now doing 2 or 3 jobs, putting in 60 hours a week trying to keep the campus afloat for the students and staff have to choose between sticking it out until the bitter end or bailing and leaving the others in a worse position. Either way we lose, the staff loses, and the students lose.

Once ACICS decides to suspend us in August the Dept. of Ed. will have all they need to suspend funding, which will ultimately result in chained doors at the campuses and golden parachutes being deployed in Indy.

"Glad you all are getting fired"...sorry & sad ITT has strayed so very far off course. In the (long) past many grads actually did well by ITT.

You seem to forget:

The ITT Technical Institutes are educators helping people build a foundation for the rest of their lives.

Now:

Full time educators are mostly gone. Deans , chairs, etc, gone. Adjuncts are replaced over & over.

The foundation for the rest of their lives IS massive & unshakeable ...massive non-forgivable debt.

They need a new tag line!

ITT Technical Institute is by far the worst company I've ever been around. Our Great folks in HQ made the brilliant decision to eliminate all of the recruiting staff and rely on the contact center to schedule appointments. Hmmmm...... Out of approximately 30 scheduled contact center appointments scheduled for our campus, only 2 showed. Sounds like great strategy. The interesting thing I'm wondering is why did all the Deans, DORs, MORs, Career Services, Learning Resource Center, and Administrative personnel get eliminated but I haven't heard of one District Manager, RDOR or executive team member losing his/her job. Who does the RDOR now have to manage? Actually, in retrospect, this is the best that all of us that got RIF'd. The school is a scam and I feel sorry for any student that attends. We had students that wouldn't come to class or would come to class at 7:30 p.m. when the class started at 6:00 p.m. and then leave early and still pass the class. We had students that failed but since they complained management allowed them to graduate. Any person still working for ITT should find another job and walk in and say I'm done as/of right now. We have two representatives left at our campus and they are still expected to work from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. and work every Saturday from 9:00 to 3:00 p.m. I can guarantee Kevin Modany isn't working on Saturdays. Looking forward to the day that I hear that ITT is closed and students are getting their loans forgiven. Until then, PLEASE DO NOT ENROLL in ITT Technical Institute.

Let me see, I need to come up with 120 million. Ok, this is what I'll do. Get rid most of my recruiters. The 2 or 3 left, I'll work them until their flesh falls off their bones. If the 2 or 3 won't or can't keep up, I have spares from the ones I threw out with the trash!

Layoffs happen, it's the American way now! But you throw all these people on the street and say by the way your benefits end today, remember I need to come up with 120 million. Itt-Technical Institute a classless act!!!

So, finally Central Office/Home Office/Headquarters have realized that prior model was not working; guess what, this new one of "small market" won't either, why because the central call center will be doing the cold calls and making the referrals/appointments; from about 12 to 18 reps to 2 + either the DOR or MOR, really?, what has change?. What about the hours of each Campus operation?, I believe it is coming to a more sensible, reasonable schedule. This business has not heart, it is only about the cash and what they have to raise to comply with DOE. Why the sacrifice of those very good individuals that lost their jobs, for what? When they will be disclosing the Campuses consolidation as well as the reduction of the Districts?

People in the Carmel bubble know best. They treated faculty like commodities (failing to meet their ACICS requirements in the process) and now they are treating the sales function the same way.

Kevin Modany is incapable of realizing how much of this he is to blame for and the board is incapable of of pointing that out. As long as those guys are still in charge there is no future for ITT Tech.
