Read an interesting article in “Time” magazine this week “Why we’re losing the Internet to the culture of hate”, and I thought of this layoff site: half a serious honest discussion of layoff potential, concerns and logistics (i.e., how to file for unemployment or get company benefits, etc.) and half a childish blitzkrieg of insults (butt hurt dead wood), overactive spell hecklers against those with thick thumbs and small phones, political pontification (the Shillary shrillers that seem to be everywhere), and conspiracy theories (this week alone from moon landing deniers to Nazis). While some of the latter (probably for the most part generated by just a few posters) can be amusing in small doses, it becomes rapidly annoying and distracting for any adult conversation. The lead off to the time article said “Trolls are turning the web into a cesspool of aggression and violence. What watching then is doing to the rest of us may be even more harmful”. According to Time: "the … 5% of internet users who self-identified as trolls scored extremely high in the dark tetrad of personality traits: narcissism, psychopathy, machiavellianism, and, especially, sadism”. Now ashamed that I rose to troll bait a few times and added some comments to posts here that I should have ignored, I have come to agree with those that plead trolls be ignored. Much like chastising someone with Asperger’s for shouting out in church, shouting back at trolls does little to rectify the problem. Trolls feed on any attention; they can only be subdued by silence (as one might treat an inadvertent fart in polite company) and encouraging statements to those who may have been wronged by a trolls comments.

I just read the term "butthurt" on another totally unrelated to layoffs website in the comments. Is it OK for them to use that term? I thought that the term "Butthurt" was exclusive to this forum and the losers who frequent it. That's not Fair!!!

I'm not sure about trolls, but I have read quite a few brain-dead posts lately, like the one directly below this one. Just ignore the anti-American trolls on this site. They are not really even legitimate trolls, they are Russian hackers hoping to get you so worked up that you'll download something from one of their sites (which they will say proves their claims) so they can gain access to your computer, and if they're lucky, the Chevron internal network, for their nefarious purposes (ransomware, spying, etc.). Think about it, why would anyone, especially when they are clearly not Chevron employees, waste their time posting such stuff to this particular site? They clearly have a more sinister agenda. My test just now was to repeatedly open a Thread, close it, close my browser, reopen my browser, reopen the thread...my observation was the the tread viewed count did not change... Suggesting to me the views counted are unique. Your mileage may vary.
@IZshzwC-1ibw.. I didn't say that CVX is paying someone to monitor this site... I just broke the HR two out from the pack of CVX still on payroll, since most consider them the enemy. Apparently, you missed my humor that this site probably doesn't have that many steady observers/contributors ...just a few folks looking every other hour to see if someone took the bait on their last post.
BTW... did you notice that even when putting in a name or pseudonym, this site still issues a new pseudonym for each post? I got a grin from this for all the past posts that have chastised individuals for going the anonymous route. "Cowards that hide behind their Mommy's PC", can now rest easy! @IZshzwC-1anb... if you are a retired CVX employee, I included you in the EOI bucket. I can't imagine that there were very many legitimate retirees (in the working ranks) this year because of the known layoff situation and the subsequent severance package. If you got out without that, either poor timing or poor planning. Then again, maybe you're the partridge in the pear tree.
Maybe it's time for both of us to find better entertainment options besides this site..LOL.

I've been a reader of this site for over 6 months now...even contributed a few legitimate topics. I've come to the conclusion that there is only about 35 other folks who are regulars here....15 who really got laid-off, 9 who took an EOI package (includes me), 7 who are still on CVX payroll and have nothing better to do than surf the Internet, 3 trolls, 2 CVX HR monitors and a partridge in a pear tree!
Come on guys, you have to realize in an open forum like this, you have to weed through the BS without reacting to trite rants in order to get a few bits of potentially valuable information that your hoping to find in probably the least reliable location available to you. I have read those terms before and not just on this site. But I have never seen the term butt-hurt much or even at all until I saw it on this site, although I don't think they invented it here. I have seen vulgarities though, and insults on this very Chevron Layoffs site which make the butt-hurt or dead-wood terms seem quite docile. I would rather be called butt-hurt than what some of these cowards attack you with personally. It's as if they think that a cowardly personal attack is elevating them in some anonymous way. How could it, they are anonymous?

The OP sycophant put "Time" magazine in quotes, this is a strong indicator that she or he works in PGPA, not HR. She follows the AP style. They have survived unscathed at Chevron, while engineers and project managers with E&P and business management skills have been decimated. The real doers are gone, but for a few. CVX is a totally transformed company. It is no longer in the energy business, but a PR firm trying to hang onto their stockholders.
I have often wondered exactly who the Deadwood Butthurt Loser is, and how much of a pleasure it must be to be graced with their presence. I really hope it is a pubescent jock child who has not yet realized just how little of life is under your own personal control. How you act by yourself, as in on an anonymous layoff board, is the true definition of your character. I actually see it as the real Chevron employee lack of integrity, lack ethics and a number of other mental abnormalities coming out behind the cowardice of anonymity on a message board. The companies behavior towards persecuting people is just more raw on here.
