Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Medical insurance Changes for 2017. Bend over folks.

So now we hear CVX is dropping United Health for our medical insurance and signing us up with Blue Cross scrub team. Higher costs and less benefits. I guess we'll use that money to pay the dividend. Of course HR is putting the spin on this but only an idiot would fall for their BS. The folks on retiree medical will also be bent over.

I guess this change will result in a significant savings during the Q1 layoffs next year. Gold star on some HR PMP I guess. Note, however, the new rules say you can take the vacation time for the year at any time (not just after it is earned) and if you are terminated you do not have to repay extra hours already taken. So ... did I mention I was taking all January off?

Accrued vacation will be paid upon ending employment. This change relates to how vacation time is accrued and paid in the future. Right now you are paid out of full years worth of vacation even if you haven't technically earned it when leaving the company prior to the end of the year. That practice is over

Just wait for Chevron to shaft its employees again by reducing the 401k match significantly. But maybe it will only take until early 2017 before you realize the higher deductible changes in medical were bad enough.

Every company across the US is changing their benefits. Look around at other companies and you will see that our benefits are still on top. In 5 years they will do another benefit study and United Health will offer a discount compared to Blue Cross to earn our business. All of this is very standard practice.

-1fag. If relatively small cuts in benefits, vacation days, bonus is all it takes, then I am in. My current salary is fairly sweet.

This change is standard across many companies but chevron is one of the first of the major O&G companies to try it. Eliminating the $300 deuctible plan and replacing is with a "basic" HDHP will let them charge more for the previous "option 3" plan and push more people to it. And we can forget about the "premium holidays" we've had over the last several years.

Medical and vacation this year. Other benefits will follow if things don't improve.

When I started in 1980 the vacation policy was that you received your first vacation "in the year of your first anniversary". This meant that you earned the vacation on a yearly basis the year before you were given it. We were told that it all would work out because you received the earned vacation in your last uncompleted year you left or retired in.

When I was laid off this year I heard how Chevron was being generous my giving laid-off employees the vacation they were scheduled to receive. I though to myself how off that was, I earned all of the vacation I received and not given anything!

Now Chevron says you earned vacation day by day and they will advance you a year's worth each year before you earn it. If I was still employed at Chevron, I would be asking when I was going to get paid back for the first year of vacation I never received. They have definitely changed the policy and a large number of employees will be getting short changed.

The vacation change is for next year. The company will now feed you vacation days with a medicine dropper so when you leave the company there will be minimal cashout, and the brochure includes a BIG FAT LIE saying this is just like it used to be with is entire horse hockey because today vacation is advanced and deemed earned on Jan 1. I really would hope a HR committee drafting a company brochure could avoid telling an outright lie fer cryin' out loud, like Hillary Clinton was writing this stuff. Jeez. There is another change in that you can use all your weeks before you earn it and not pay it back. Hey HR, who is going to do the work in the first half of the big crew change year? Everyone will be on vacation. Nice plan.

-elv, You don't get your vacation days paid upon severance, because you have none, technically. That's the way it is set up. Bend Over and take your medicine.

The company eliminated the PPO Medical Option 1 choice and added a new High Deductible Plan to the mix. What does that translate to? Easy, they are offering lower premium choices to their employees, but at the expense of higher deductibles and copayments. When the details are shown during Open Enrollment, we will see really how much we're being shafted, folks. Get whatever medical services you've been putting off done now. High Deductibles will be the word in 2017.

All accrued and unused vacation days MUST be paid out to the employee. No way around this for Chevron. IT'S THE LAW.

Everything I read online states any accrued vacation must be paid according to Fair Laboratory laws, especially in California, it is considered wages/deferred income.

If you choose to the leave, are asked to leave, or choose to retire, the company will not pay out your vacation. You can use your vacation days prior them actually being earned and if you leave the company, are asked to leave, or choose to retire there is not a penalty.

Can someone break down the new vacation policy upon exiting the company? With all the exits of 30+ yr people coming in 2017, looks like getting paid for all your unused vacation is over. You can still take it all if there is time. Anyone plan to leave 6 weeks on the table without taking it?

The primary, or only, reason to change insurance carriers is to pay a lower premium. You (employees) get what you (Chevron) pay for. This company is digging deep to cut any expenses it can that are related to payroll. The layoffs haven't quite done the job.

OP you are right. Details at benefits connection or hr2.chevron.com

Things must really be getting bad. Have there been any more LNG shipments or are those all still screwed up?
