Been at Cisco for over 12 years, and this is probably the worst Layoff ever, from a communication standpoint everyone has been in the dark, the rumor of the numbers are insane, I though Chuck would be a better leader and have right minded people reporting to him. But maybe this is the new trend where the CFO has more power than the CEO. This is sad , the once Cisco we all knew is gone, how can employees have any security , how can it not effect their work like balance when you are setup to compete with your colleagues instead of collaborate with them, is this the culture we want at any company? its a great way to create a hostile non trusting environment. I'm sure the VPs or SVP will be all protected while the people that do all the real work and run the machine are treated like slaves. Welcome back the 1920s. Shame Shame Shame!!!!!

You're right though. There's way too many VPs and Directors making architecture decisions that don't know anything about the products they are in charge of. They don't listen to their engineers. Look at Gee Rittenhouse, what a tool. He wants lickable screens, true story. And they have him in charge of security? Great.... I'm sure it won't interrupt his Napa valley weekends living the socialite life. Those are the people that got to go
Who washed their feet in the bathroom sink ... That's disgusting
I'm recruiting for Managers and Linux Engineers at a very large Internet company. Email me if you're interested in learning more: tchoi615@yahoo.com. I actually am recruiting for a Sr. Manager in Herndon, VA.
The stock buyback scam at Cisco has been going on for several years.
The primary job of the executives are to be Chief Capital Allocators. Stock buybacks at high prices are abysmal. They are a one shot boost and offer nothing more than a short term illusion of Earnings per share growth.
Wise managers invest in R&D, Employee retention and long term growth prospects.
Cisco has been juicing the numbers for so long they don't even fully realize that it is a bad thing. Instead of wise investment they buy companies that are at best odd choices, like throwing spaghetti at the wall to see what sticks.
Cisco is a routing, switching, wireless, voice, video, service provider, IOT, Big Data, cloud, NFV, datacenter company.
Does anyone know how many contractors are at Cisco these days ?
I worked there for 14 years so just curious and yes the old Cisco is long gone.
I am also a manager and have not heard anything regarding a layoff. I suppose that could mean I am on the list. :)
Nothing new that the CFO has more power than the CEO. The CFO is slave to large institutional shareholders, who love dividends and stock buybacks (which the executive team have millions of reasons to like, too) and who hate business risk.
Investment in product development? Gee, that's risky and takes years to show a return, why on earth would you do that?
I'm a manager too. I'm going to be so happy firing my employees! Chuck and ELT, you guys are the best! Keep up the good work!
