imho they need to buy a smaller cloud hosting provider (say rackspace) to gain their own playing field to deploy cloud sw products and try to scale/popularize that as a reference to enterprises . pretty much all the other big providers (amazon, microsoft, google) have strong and large sw teams and will not buy csco solutions and they will go with their own design of cheap hw as well , same for facebook .. going to them trying to sell bits and pieces of cloud solution is not a monetization business model. neither is upstreaming free sw to github - where is the money in it - our cost structure is expensive yet I see so many PE/DE tinkering with open src.

Too late to the cloud. Cloud is becoming a commodity now. Azure and AWS already a matured cloud infrastructure. It would take so much (fund, technology and market share) to break into it. Oracle has been trying hard and barely getting into the party. Didn't CIsco putting bet on OpenStack ? My guess is, it isn't doing too good? Cisco sounds like a dinosaur now. Huawei does it better with price and quality.
This is funny. Based on cisco business model, if they buy crap hoster like rackspace, cisco would triple the price to customer, increase cost to operate add more expensive solution to operate, and then raise price again to every six months to cover costs of bloated manager salaries and unrealistic financial & cost basis goals set by finance and BD dorks who know nothing of this space or this market. Compare that to AWS, MSFT, and others who do it themselves, can offer price reductions and innovate because they have smart coders- unlike the h1B visa retreads we have here.
Companies like this are dime a dozen
