Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

14,308 Cisco employees being paid off worldwide

14,308 total jobs will be cut:

7642 in SJ

5771 in RTP

895 in other locations

Majority of the cuts will be for those reporting to Guillermo Diaz. I started dropping hints to my employees last month but unfortunately in won't be able to let them go myself as I too will be laid off.

The variable 5 month severance package is as follows:

1 month to find alternate role + 4 months paid severance + 1 week pay for each year over 10. 6 months of retroactive cobra coverage will be offered as well. No idea on whether bonuses will be paid out or not. This information will be announced in the earnings report later today & D-day will be on the 18th.

If I repeatedly fail to do my job, it is more than likely that my a-- would be fired in no time. So why do we still keep those same execs who have repeatedly failed and resorted to company downsizing and layoff every year or two to demonstrate profits.

20% would be awesome, a strong indicator that management no longer believes Cisco will ever recover and grow.

Although a bit shocked at the numbers, glad to hear that it won't be (likely) as big as they said in the news release. For those giving the big "fu" to Cisco, I personally love it here. It is the best company I have personally worked for, having been at HP, CA, and a handful of other companies in my career. Regardless, not fun anytime there is downsizing (I was downsized at CA), but, it isn't a personal thing if that helps at all. All that aside ,again, very proud to work here...

I love these armchair experts who seem to know all about the pending layoffs before the market announcements.

Because this is market sensitive information, the actual numbers will only be know by a select group - who certainly wont be running to thelayoff.com to air the laundry !

7-9% is what we hear and makes sense. .. 20% is super aggressive and will bring down several business units and organizations inside Cisco. .. CRN is high on steroids and the dumb part is that major outlets are just republishing CRN news blindly.

"A VP here, its going to be tough but the number is sizeably smaller. Good luck all."

The number is sizeable smaller - which number, the layoff count or severance package?

No way on those numbers. That would be all of RTP and half of SJC.

I dunno about you guys after 8 years of this crap but my exit strategy was crafted in June. The big fu to Cisco is my whole team coming with me that are all new grad programmers. Others are doing the Sam on other teams.

Bonuses will be paid as the fiscal was completed. Still a good package when you hear what's happening in IBM and HP.

Getting rid of the old lions and recruiting cheaper young tigers. Will be good short term, but you've got to believe that the long term isn't so favorable for Cisco. The MPLS debacle and other examples will come back to bite them in a few years. Can't see Mario and co cooperating with Chuckie. New disruptive Arista is on the way....

Why Guillermo Diaz ?

Isn't he CIO. Do you mean majority of lay-off it IT. Doesn't make sense as IT does not have so many employees.

The speculation is fantastic, some of the humour is funny.....all things consudered. The CRN story on the 14K number comes from Ankit Ajmera in Bengaluru; Editing by Sandra Maler and Sunil Nair. Enough said.
