Thought I would have a free holiday on Cisco.....

The Vegas ticket is booked already, so you can use it for your own leisure without the hotel, but security will be on the lookout for unbadged attendees. But then who would want to go?
I have a total of 32 reports: 4 direct and 28 who report to those four. I had to submit a list of three names who I could potentially lose, roughly two weeks before FY16 ended.
Shortly thereafter, word came back that I only had to lay off two people. One individual contributor actually resigned the first day of FY17. We are going to sacrifice that headcount, so I only have to lay one person off now.
I had a very transparent conversation with that gentleman literally the day after I submitted names, encouraging him to find a different job either inside or outside Cisco. While he was disappointed, I think that he did appreciate my candor and the additional lead time.
I've been laid off personally and have had to do these Cisco LRs many times in the past. This is, without a doubt, the worst handling of a mass layoff I've ever experienced. Our "leadership" team and HR are telling us that we cannot have the kind of conversations like I had, but I can't sleep at night knowing that one of my team members is on the chopping block and I have to pretend like nothing is wrong. If they want to fire me for being honest, so be it. The whole company seems to be scared of the truth.
Part of the "people deal" is being open and honest, from employee to manager and vice versa. There was no openness or honesty about this LR in any way, shape, or form. The whole process is demoralizing, particularly for everyone who MUST attend the $90M boondoggle in Vegas next week. We could save 550 people just by canceling that damned event.
If you got an unexpected 1:1 from someone in your management chain then you should assume you are toast.
Don't even bother trying to engage in a conversation. Pretend to listen to the script - and it is a script - and accept the fact that they have been coached to not engage further.
Whatever emotional involvement you have with your work should end immediately. Let the company tell you what to do next w/r/t whatever it is you are working on. Then choose whether you want to comply or not.
No Vegas. Confirmed
why would you want to hang out with a bunch of polo-shirt pop-belled docker wearing field peoples (except for wanna-be hipster skinny wearing funny glasses- largely european trying to look like kid)
Got my 1 on 1 invite for EST PM. Hope for the best but plan for the worst. :(
NO.
I will be LR'd (got my 1 on 1 invite) and the only thing I am happy is not going to that brainwash event and hearing all the coolaiders screaming during the opening session like little girls in Justin Bieber concert. Thank God and good riddance!
why not ?? you can use your severance package for the travel :)
