Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

The Great Thing About Chevron Is...

Lots of whining and crying over spilt milk in this forum. Let's list some of the things we like about Chevron.

I'll give you an easy one to start off. Salaries and benefits at Chevron are fabulous. Pretty much everyone is wildly overpaid. I'm not kidding. We are all paid way more than we need in order to afford a place to live, basic transportation and living expenses. I reckon any frugal petro-tech can painlessly save 40% of their income and sock away a seven figure nest egg in less than ten years. The pension is gravy on top of that. And hey, a lot of the work is fun and colleagues can be a laugh if you find the right ones. What's not to like?

I consider my present job setting in downtown Houston a hardship location. My supervisor is a complete A-hole and busts my balls everyday. That's hardshipand I demand my pay increase?

More like $500k in two years in a hardship location. Three years in Europe, Oz, Copacabana, etc.

Agreed many folks overpaid - and if you nab a hardship overseas assignment you can easily save 500k in 3 years

Did you know there is a secret hidden elevator in both the 1500 Louisiana and 1400 Smith buildings in downtown Houston? They are express non-stop elevators that run from inside corner offices on the first office floor to the top office floor in both buildings. They were meant to be secret because the elevators are located inside what appears to be small corner office or storage rooms on top and bottom floors. Inside thes rooms, the elevator door is disguised. It is actually behind a common, but wider than normal wood door. I have a friend who is in the elevator maintenance and repair business. He told me this story a few days ago when I ran into him at a downtown bar. He heard it from another guy in the business whose company has the contract for servicing the Chevron building elevators. I know these buildings were built for Enron. I'm wondering if these secret express elevators were meant as escape elevators in the event of a fire, terrorism, or simply for fleeing from justice? Interesting.

How deep are the cuts at CPL? How many are employed there now and how many will have to go?

The best thing about Chevron is that it's not BP. That's about it.

Tonight in your dreams it will hit $150. Don't forget to cash out, else you'll wake up disappointed that you didn't.

Obviously not "high marks in Bachelor's and Master's" and most probably no high school GED either. Just an illiterate troll spouting gibberish. They are a dime a dozen here..............

@IT7Bx49-juf, So you think that being useless and wasting your life is something to brag about? Wow!! You can't make this stuff up!!! Next thing you read, there will be people on here posting about how much they can sponge off of entitlement programs and take donated goods and services under false pretenses, like looters after a catastrophe, preventing the poor needy from getting what they require. What a pathetic leech on honest hard-working society.

What I like best about Chevron is having reached my financial goal of retiring in 2016 after 36 years and being lucky enough to get laid off. I got to retire with a one year severance bonus and 6 months of subsidized Cobra medical insurance. Another cherry was being able to milk to state for 6 months of unemployment too. Life is gooooood.

Getting the overpaid salary and benefits is definitely the top reason to like Chevron. A few folks I'm sure will say the salary is fair because they are engineers and they are this or that. Fine, but over 90% of everyone else and Chevron is overpaid and we know it, right? What else do I like about Chevron?

1) Easily being able to outwit my supervisor and get good salary increases every year.

2) Taking frequent 90 minute lunch breaks without having to explain anything to the boss.

3) Being able to spend 3 hours a day on the Internet without consequence.

4) Low cost Chevron-subsidized vanpool service promptly departing the office at 4:00.

I can probably name a few more, but those four are good for starters.
