Thread regarding Kmart layoffs

Store Closures

Anyone know at all if any of the SC Kmarts/Sears that are left going to be closed? Or does SHC even have money to get through Christmas 2016? I am Predicting that somewhere between January 2017-June/July 2017 that Sears will file Chapter 11 or 7. When the seritage 2 year Window ends then the wind down will start?

What is everyone's thoughts on this?

I am suprised, that "Crazy Eddie" has not tried to sell off the pharmacies in the remaining stores, like when target sold theirs to CVS which s---s.

I wonder of the 941 stores OR less still have operating pharmacies? Yes a pharmacist salary and one tech costs more than one SM and one ASM soft lines and one ASM hardlines. So those three combined does not come close to what a pharmist makes.

A big problem with the pharmacy tho is that most of their customers only buy generics and they have to give so many promotions and coupons to get customers in. When you add it all up, they probably don't make a ton of money, and pharmacists salaries are not cheap.

I agree with the pharmacy part. The pharmacy is a big part of any retail company. Pharmacies bring customers in. If a pharmacy closes then 99% of the time then your store will be closing.

I think you will see a larger amount of store closings after the 2nd quarter earnings are announced. Some stores are on the edge of living because they have profitable pharmacy's

Yes you have a valid point with the closing of the stores that are losing money

Bankruptcy doesn't mean a massive closure of all the stores. Actually, if the company entered Chapter 11, it would be the wisest thing to do. However, that isn't happening in the next three quarters. There isn't much that is owed to vendors right now... and there aren't a lot of stores closing right now. Bankruptcy would help with killing the leases of stores that have been circling the drain for years.
