I was laid of in April 2016 and still struggling to find work. Should i call my ex-manager? Have a family to run with very limited savings.I was a senior engineer in EMS Sugarland.

everything is very much frozen now. No hiring , unless you are new rat, oh sorry new grad. and by the way i think the manager probably worry about how to protect their job and their relative more than you. So be strong, who know you will be a manager of SLB competitive later on. If you just get out of prison never look back.

Same, and the true is other industry know when oi and as will back up so will u, they dont want to hire you, unless u show them u want to really go for career change. My advice is keep head up and survice. If u have family this is the time to know do you have a good gamily. Anybody can work , go to work.

I was laid off in June 2016. I found another job - I was out a month. You will have to hustle and work harder than you ever had at seeking employment. But jobs are out there, there is life after Schlumberger!

I am in the same boat.. Got laid off right after quarter end closing and had a couple interviews with no feedback. I think the market for non O&S industry is very conservative now. Not sure when will be able to return back work but I try to stay positive and treasure this period of time I could spend time to think about things and take good care of family. The time in SLB, I even need to work on 1/1 and Labor Day..

On the same boat as you Buddie! Was laid off in April as a Treasury Accountant and haven't had any luck so far. Interviewed at least at 5 places but no offer. At this point, I'm willing to take any job until I find something better. UE is about to run out and we got bills that need to be paid!!!

apply for TWC benefits, join a weekly job search work group, volunteer. Quite a few meet up around the Houston area. Network out of the industry and stay active in professional groups (SPE, ASME, PMI, etc).

It doesn't hurt to call your past Mgr., but not much they can do really during these hard times.

Home Depot, Lowes, and the Highway Dept. are always good places to go while waiting for the Boom to come back. Put the wife and kids to work, cut down on expenses, buy bologna and hot dogs.
