SCM is a joke. Name one thing the group has done this year?
Great point someone had in a previous post.....
Tips to not get laid off:
Example in Canada
Step one: Introduce yourself to one of the expat managers from Houston
Step two: Buy him or her coffee in the morning
Step three: Hang out with him or her at lunch (ie. Work out at the gym or play squash)
Step four: Hang out with him or her outside of work (ie. Get to know the spouse and children personally, go out for drinks and dinner)
Step five: Add them on facebook! This will solidify your position at work!
If you do this, you do not need to worry about being laid off!
Even better, you do not even need to know how to do your job!
If you ever thought The HR was a friend then you are an idiot. HR has a very important but also simple job to do. Keep the sheep in line to protect the company. HR makes sure you follow the rules. Makes sure they are involved in every issue and aware of any conflicts or possible negative situation. This is for the sole purpose of making sure that thatvthe company cannot be taken to court and sued. Whether it's discrimination. Threats. Harassment. Dismissal. You name it.
All the onboarding. Layoffs. Benefits etc. That's just to fill in the time as extras they do every day. The real job is to assess threats that leaves them vulnerable
When a company (or asset) is close to bankruptcy the only thing that matters is cashflow that week.
2znp, the EIT was reduced because in times of tight money, the company can not afford to be paying to keep a bunch of trainees on the payroll! Trainees take time before they ever start making money for the company! The company needs employees who can contribute immediately! It also needs to trim dead weight and slugs!
Am I the only one in amazement of how full of sh!t HR is? They state in a town hall that they are very careful to maintain a healthy age and gender demographic during layoffs, yet months ago they completely decimated the EITs during the last round of layoffs. My suspicions have been confirmed, HR can not be trusted....
Everyone is fair game for the upcoming layoffs. Just remember that you are just a number and this is not a reflection of your competency or capabilities. If you are laid off, it has nothing to do with you and try not to take it personally.
Just remember, the only way to be successful at Conoco is through brown-nosing and a$$kissing with expat management.
1lpv - you have the literacy of a six year old. Unreal...
Lol. Finally S K was mentioned. He should let go long ago. But sadly I knew he will stay longer than most of us. And tons of money lost everyday by Oilsands. There is no way Oilsands going to make any money in next two years. I bet no one want buy that. I am happy to see that COP cannot exit Canada 100%.
Oil sands is done. S2 is a mess. Why would anyone pay for sh-- quality oil that costs so much to refine when there is an overabundance of cheap quality oil on the market? It's common sense. Our leaders are idiots and don't want to admit sunk costs. Be smart and cut all of oil sands. Would love to see Shawn K get axed. Guy's a walking corpse that does nothing but read ebooks all day. Also all the entitled juinors in oil sands. I know a few juniors who are overly entitled and arrogant in this group.
No S3, S4... more cut coming from oilsands. WCBU waiting for sell. It may not cut as much as OilSands
It means no new operations. As in no budget. As in bye bye Canada. Get your head out of the sand people.
ummm, what about drilling? All those other groups have been hit in previous rounds but from what I've heard there are plenty of ops folks twiddling their thumbs. I would bet ops gets hit a lot harder than any other group this time around. Not saying other groups won't get trimmed, but no capital budget means very few new operations.
Land for sure. They have 2 managers of contracts and admin plus they are not qualified to boot. However in the bigger picture there is NO capital budget for 2017, soooo I'm sure COP is planning on getting out of Canada. Thanks NDP
Your mom is getting hit hard. Thats all I know.
As for the rest of WCBU-- you all are FUUUUUUUUCKED!!!
I am a huge supporter of SCM. Under the right guidance and with talented folk the group can add huge benefits across the organization. However currently SCM Canada is a joke. In fighting and back stabbing goes on without recourse. The group is far to big and is not adding the value that it used to. All the best SCM folk walked out without sufficient effort to keep or replace them. If the company is not drilling many wells, has no major capital projects and has cut back on maintenance capital then there is not much purchasing activity going on.
