QCOM f*cked up the health insurance plan. JANA insisted health care was bleeding cash. QCOM had one of the most comprehensive health plans in the industry. Now it's just just another high deductible health plan. Also, while QCOM self-insures, they essentially set up a separate trust for healthcare coverage that buys a plan from United and Kaiser "off the shelf." When they laid off people, virtually everyone out the door who wasn't a total effing incompetent was either female, had kids, had a disability or chronic medical condition, or was over age 40. These are all factors that raise the cost of healthcare; and the lower the percentage of your corporate work force with any of these issues, the lower the corporation's cost for blanket coverage.

QCOM described it as a reaction to the ACA and the 40% tax on cadillac plans. However, it really was just an excuse to shed more opex.
QC, my wife works for another company that still has their plan that was the same as QC's old plan. All Obama did was give QC and other doners cover for cutting bennie's. That is one of the things QC pays Obama and Hillary for.
