Thread regarding Cabela's Inc. layoffs

Are most of the stores having problems filling positions?

We have more positions open than ever it seems. The turnover is also pretty high. Are there too many other companies hiring and taking away potential applicants?

Guess that means that outfitters that work nights and weekends don't need any HR support.

Not that it really matters in Hamburg since Jen doesn't provide any support in the limited hours in the store.

Sound like another position can be eliminated and the outfitters can just call a 1-800 number for any questions.

I work in HR for another company. We are responsible for training. I have also been in many retail stores all over the country. As the offices in these stores are near the restrooms, I have noticed that HR does not work evenings or weekends in pretty most of the stores. In my case, the biggest reason we don't work evenings or weekends is because our corporate offices don't evenings or weekends. Our contacts at corporate only work days.

That's the incompetent HR and GM!

It will only take about a month to get through the process because the HR group will not work or train on weekends or nights.

Why isn't the HR gone? Doesn't see the importance of staffing just helping her guy pack so he can go to his next gig.

What a waste of payroll dollars.

I think it is hard to fill positions when you treat your employees so poorly. Then in your morning meetings you ask those same employees, who you are making reapply for their same jobs, if they know anyone who would want to work there. You can't tell people you will fire them and then make them re-apply for the same position to ask their friends to compete for that same position.

People don't want to work in places where they are treating their employees like this. Nor do they want to to be expected to have open availability for a job that pays just about minimum wage.

We have a ton of openings and some college students that are about to go back to school. It could get interesting. I think the required weekend availability is keeping a lot of people away.

Blame the Democraps and Obamacare for this whole fiasco where you can only find part time work that cannot give you enough hours so you have to find 2 more part time jobs and then still take the government Obama(dont)care insurance. Turnover s---s in retail and Obama made it the worst ever.

We hire plenty but are quick to cut their hours and drive them away. We have alienated pretty much everyone local. All that is left are college students that haven't figured us out yet.

People are probably worried about the possible sale. Or, the word is out about what it's like to work for Cabelas.
