Thread regarding Qualcomm Inc. layoffs

We should all be proud of the brave Qualcomm women who stood up against workplace discrimination and abuse at Q

This class action lawsuit is a great step forward in protecting employees from the abusive Qualcomm culture. Let's hope others would come forward and bring similar class action lawsuites for all other categories of abuses and violations that takes place in this company.

You guys are really stupid. Your anonymity and a slander lawsuit is only a court order away. Think the people you named aren't afraid of a fight.

Are you sure? One thing I've learned about insurance companies is that they are the biggest crooks. They will never insure you if there is no money in it for them. So why should they insure one of the most infamous companies (if not the most infamous one) from getting lawsuit while Q is always in legal battles with the rest of the world.

@2xpj

This may come as shocking news to you but people usually suit for financial reasons and not for making a point. Those ladies most likely were offered 2, 2.5 mill each and the rest for the attorneys and they jumped on it. They are most likely cruising in Bahamas now while sipping on pina colada.

Lets face it, you are NOT working for one of the most ethical companies. Just check how many lawsuits Q gets. Here money and stock price rule and the rest? ... well, let's bend it as long as it doesn't break.

Perhaps you should try smaller companies where the ethics still matter.

@2bbq

You are right! And let's not forget our great visionary let 3000-4000 go to save a billion while sitting on so much cash. For now, Chinese paid their bills and Snapdragon is fixed. we will see how far our great Fuhrer can take us in the future.

Actually $19.5 millions is coming from the insurance company: not even a cent is paid by Qualcomm.

" It's a very good chunk. Enjoy! "

You missed the whole point here doofuss!

This lawsuit is a lot more than financial gain/compensation. It is about the fact that women are treated unfairly and how it has become the norm in this company. It is about the fact men in management in this company are disgracing the American way of doing things.

These men/managemnt needs to be identified removed/tetminated asap. This company should not tolerate this speciallywhen it is very clear as daylight that they are practicing these old backward culture practices and yet they are being protected.

I wish this ongoing case was made aware to women across all groups and you would have seen alot come forward with solid evidences of how these old fashioned neanderthals use bad judgement when it comes to recognizing women. And perhaps forced by higher ups to terminate these idiots. Missed opportunity to clean up the bad apes in Qualcomm management.

In 2015, Qualcomm had $17.3 billions cash on hand; so $19.5 millions really is nothing to settle such a lawsuit ; actually the bad publicity is the one that damages its indoctrination.

Lots of emotions here! You are doing great. Why bi**hing so much?

A good attorney settles always outside the court. They don't let it go forever. Remember, Q's attorneys can make this keep going for years. Besides they cannot legally talk to these women and convince them unless these women represent themselves before the law which I doubt.

19 mill is almost 1.4 cent per share in the revenue. It's a very good chunk. Enjoy!

There's women were not brave, they took money, a small amount at that, to let Q sweep this under the rug.

Q will put in "policy changes" that will change nothing but will provide legal cover, they will have a couple "consultants" that will provide further legal cover, they will pick a woman or two for executive level, but it will be women they can control, and nothing will actually change for the people in the trenches.

In order to operate a corrupt sweatshop like Qualcomm "legally", Q must have politicians and the government in their pocket (thru political donations) as they have; there is no other way.

Q in Sorrento valley is modern slavery, run mainly by corrupt Indians. Executives should be prosecuted. Unfortunately Jacobs family has the backup from Obama; so would have to wait for Trump to see any possible change.

It is interesting to see long work hours has been noted as one of the contributing factors to discrimination against women with children in Qualcomm.

HR's stance on unreasonably long working hours on weekday and weekends at Q is that since engineers are "Exempt employees" there is no regulation on how many hours they can be made to work. HR has been so bold to say if an employee has to work long hours and weekends, it is because the employee does not work efficiently and therefore it is the employee's fault.

HR and Employee Relations department do not care about employees or any company ethics. Their job is to help management extract the maximum amount of work from employees with the least amount of pay while making sure the company does not get sued while pushing the envelop. They are willing to do this at any human cost.

If an employee complains to HR or to the Employee Relations department, even with a clear-cut legitimate case, they will blame the employee and eliminate the employee so that they wouldn't have to make any admission of guilt and expose Qualcomm to lawsuits. Ironically, they have failed on that front as well.

I wish I (a woman in the same senior level title for 8 years ) had been brave enough to file a suit or known about this suit and joined in. In my defense, I worked such long hours trying to change things for the better (against the steady stream of status quo protectionist attitudes and bullying of the men around me) even during medical treatment (yep the 7/24 availability is highly regarded) that when I was laid off (upper management men decided to retain less productive male mangers) and received absolutely NO help from Human Resources that I simply gave up and left. The female HR rep pretty much told me there's nothing you can do to change anything, take your package. I hope this suit changes Quallcomm culture for women there going forward - it's tragic that so much female talent is wasted every day at Qualcomm.

I know of someone who got caste aside in favor of promotion for a man. This woman was expecting mother and was on the line for a leadership role and once she informed the managemnt of her upcoming 12 weeks leave, management took that opportunity away from her and handed it to a junior male engineer(who she was "mentoring"). Wonder if she is one of these brave woman.

She filed a case to hr after coming back from her leave and finding the role was handed to someone else, strangely enough this male junior engineer also had a child around the same time frame and it did not impact his work status.. HR did not side with her.
