Thread regarding ConocoPhillips layoffs

I was laid off from COP last year October and couldn't have been happier with life after COP

To all the people facing the sword again... don't worry ConocoPhillips is not the end of life.. life will bring more and better opportunities. .. just be brave and face reality... best luck to all

I was laid off last year October and faced it and I'm happier now in my life and have a more respectfully and sound job than ConocoPhillips

I'm glad you're happy in your new situation; that things worked out for you. I assume you're in Houston where the job market is still good. Not so much in the Bartlesville-Tulsa area. Especially for people 50+.

Nothing perfect anywhere. I was laid off last October as well and landed a new job quickly afterward.

Save your money, keep you network up and your skills sharp. You need to put the effort in to keep them sharp because COP is the not the kind of environment that demands hard skills ( there a lot more kissing involved there). After too many years I would've turned to mush. I like being evaluated solely by my immediate supervisor based on the results I am actually achieving, problems solved and not that stupid grading system where people I never work with got a say in how I was graded. I saw it myself. The system favors putting out many shallow feelers which generates a "buzz" around your name for people and not actual hard results. Good bye and Good riddance.

Remember, once laid off you're free to do whatever you want with your career. It isn't a death sentence, it is an opportunity

Good luck to all

Agreed, An oil company with a culture that promotes favouritism and socializing over professionalism

In hindsight, the paycheck was awesome but the culture and atmosphere were toxic. Overall, I agree that life as an exCOP is better than life as a COP.

You but when you are surrounded by ineptitude, favouritism and let's not forget nepotism. How can you ever enjoy working in a truly screwed up place?

Probably for the most satisfaction.....run your own Company....plan on a 60 to 72 hour work week and rare vacation every 3 or 4 years....most folks at COP were rushing for the exits at quitting time...like Homer Simpson
