Thread regarding Mattel Inc. layoffs

Story at 11 on local NBC channel 4.

It's not Mattel specifically. It's publicly traded companies as a whole. It's our 401K investments.

So 75 fewer employees now on the FP EA Campus!

At last count there was about 650 total employees left in EA. That means what? 575?

The Buffalo News article said that at one time there were 3400 people working in EA!

Imagine that! Americans employed in manufacturing and engineering!

All I can say is Thanks Mattel! (You really do suck! So many of you do - literally!)

When are you closing the rest of the place down?

First, these are not layoffs. They are job eliminations. For the Buffalo News to call them layoffs is ridiculously shortsighted. The bottom line is this: almost 14 years ago the shared services center was established to do reduce costs and eliminate positional redundancy. The department did so and saved Mattel millions upon millions of dollars over the years. As Mattel became less and less innovative, lost licenses it needed and became so top heavy, the next step is to take a well established, highly efficient, cost effective department and ship their jobs overseas. It's an absolute shame; the department was also managed quite well until a few folks retired. Once Mattel's shill was brought in, there was no support given whatsoever and she simply did not defend the people she managed. The writing has been on the wall for years - it absolutely sucks!!

I call BS - As the designers send napkin sketches over the great wall and expect to get a good product back.

And those who are over 55 steadily get replaced by kids fresh out of school.

But it's a great place to work - just ask, they'll tell you!

Reminded me of the lady who would fall asleep at her desk at FP in the middle of the work day. LOL. There were photos. At least these "soulless Asians" know when naptime is.

To the above, 'soulless Asians' so your stint in Asia I guess you were on a good remuneration package. Try living off the wage they get paid. They are hard working and have to deal with things you guys don't want to touch like PLM. So who do you think has to input all the data on top of their own daily duties. You have no idea.whats wrong with napping at your desk. It's the only place where they have a comfortable environment, better Rahm going back to the dorms. Think the above should try a stint in Asia with the same conditions on the same wage and then think about your comforatable life until you get laid off.

Looks like FP in EA is going down. Let's give China everything and we have nothing.

yup ... only a matter of time before all the designs are handled by dead eyed soulless Asians who spend their lunch breaks napping at their desks en masse. They will be the quintessential Fpeeons because they will be undervalued and considered unskilled labor. they will thank their bosses for that sprinkle of piss and beg for more and in case you're concerned about the 75 let go? Have no fear! They'll be cleaning rooms at the Hampton inn or roycroft. fighting one another for stock person jobs at vindlers or sucking off their neighbors for a few extra bucks. yup. poor Fpeeons. don't act like you didn't see it coming. any hope of you staying was blown with that over inflated crap video that the old silver fox made to show the future of FP. notice how it had everything in it but employees? know why? Asians don't test well in focus groups unless it's Jackie chan. Be sure to thank your bosses when you see them and if they close their laptops when you come by be sure you're on the shortlist. It's a common move of the cronies in the tower. see it all the time and I've worked in just about every location of the company including a 9 month stint in that cesspool China.
