Thread regarding ConocoPhillips layoffs

Just Laid Off

Well I was just laid off. I worked in the complex in Houston. Good luck to everyone still with COP.

3wti your post is spot on!

If one is willing to take a LOT less pay and other benefits, employment is easier. There are many who can't manage on half the salary they are making now, but just remember, some paycheck is better than no paycheck. If you get a lower paying job, use it as a stepping stone and keep applying at various companies.

But yes O&G spoils people....some deserve good treatment and others should be kicked to the curb. Many posts advise to get ready....resume and finances. It will still hurt, but from what is on this site, there are a lot if unhappy people who work here at COP.

I too was laid off last October. I am working now, but I'll warn anyone looking for work after COP that you'll realize just how spoiled you were at COP. Oil and Gas pays well. And if you can some how latch on to another O&G company, thank your lucky stars. Virtually every other industry is going to be a step down regarding pay, benefits, work schedule, etc. etc. I saw it coming into COP, and now working outside of O&G. Be prepared.

Incidentally, the outplacement consultant said it usually takes about 6 months to get another job. I thought they were out of their minds, thinking I'd be working again within a month. 50 or so applications, several phone interviews, 2 face to face interviews and a job offer finally after 6 months. NO ONE is in a hurry to hire. Their processes take 3 - 6 months from posting to hiring, which isn't much consolation to someone who desperately wants to be hired. It was my only offer and I was running out of time financially. And still, I'm getting rejections from the applications that are still lingering out in other companies hiring queue. Competition is fierce.

I was let go last year after 2 consectuive yrs of 2 ratings (for those who beleive it was the chaff that were let go early). It is hard at first, but realize that it may be the best thing that's even happened to you. Of all those I spoke with who were laid off at the same time, few were even remotely happy at work.

If you take the attitude that you're now free to do whatever you please then you'll be ok. Anger gets you nowhere - take it from me, the only person it hurts is in the mirror

I was too in the last round. It was hard at first. I am happier than I had been in many years now. It gets better and easier. Stay positive.

Life goes on, you will make as you are smart and highly educated. Keep your chin high, you made it this far.

I don't know you, but I know it hurts. Like one other post, prayers are being lifted.
