Thread regarding Weatherford International Ltd. layoffs

Benbrook -Houston

How many are relocating? Is it worth it? Moving then being laid off 6 months later?

All of research and development was offered relocation, but other groups are still waiting to find out what will happen to them. Are there supposed to be more layoffs in R&D or is this a real consolidation of people who the company plans to keep? That is the question. Too bad, that this thread has fallen apart and so few real bits of information are available.

If you relocate be sure to invest in a boat, life vests for the fam, and excellent flood insurance.

the reason I said ask longview how that relocation worked for them , is because the ones that did went to Louisiana from texas found that was shut down months latter.

Relocation is a big step. I wouldn't move unless I knew it was a sure thing and the company was in a healthy position. That being said, have you looked at local employment offerings? You might find it is worth more to leave Weatherford.

Are managers included in the 5 being offered relocation? This number seems small for that facility.

Question for Longview people: What happened? After relocating, were you laid off? Does the company relocate families and then turn around and terminate the positions? If so, what kinds of positions? Were they positions that were highly skilled? Did they require college degrees and graduate degrees? Did it seem like anyone was "safe"? If we actually like what we do, is it worth staying with Weatherford? Is buying a house a terrible idea? Please give us valid information. Like you, we have families and are trying to make the best decisions that we can in bad circumstances.

No guarantees that you will not be laid off in Houston, WFT can't be trusted.
