Thread regarding Mattel Inc. layoffs

Reinvest, cut the dividend! It's time Board, stop being such greedy cowards! Grow some balls, let's get this company growing again!

Don't give us anymore bullshit! Yes the stock will fall and we will piss off the investment community. So, it's the least we can can do to salvage our company. Consider it karma for all the sacrifices those laid off made for us! It has done nothing. The value of our stock needs to reflect where our business is today. We must reinvest accordingly!

Cut the dividend, our stock price will fall and as a result we will attract many new savvy investors...who understand that the only way to grow a business is to reinvest and make great product. Stop the blood sucking...this stone has run dry!

I think a rebellion is a noble thought but how would it actually happen? A walkout, everybody in the DC & Tower just walk out and start carrying signs as they walk up & down the street? Good luck with that cause it's just not going to happen.

Again, nice noble thought but totally unrealistic.

Completely agree with the last post.

Our collective inability to stand up for what we know to be right has gone on long enough. Fear, complacency, or whatever the reason...we must take a stand. The reality is that we have more power than we realize! Their is strength in numbers and we are all saying the same thing, "our current leadership has got to go".

There's a rebellion coming. We employees must band together in Solidarity and let these cretins know we aren't going to put up with their bullshit anymore. The bastards up top need to go, just like the terrorist pilots on Flight 93. If we sit quietly and do nothing, they win, we lose. We're all goners anyway at this point. Stop living in fear. Speak up and be heard. Call them on their bullshit. Don't enable them. When you see a trainwreck coming, just sit back and enjoy the fireworks. End with a bang, not a whimper.

What ever makes actually sense makes no sense at MattHell. It's all about being & staying in the AKC, aka assKissing Crowd. That's really the only thing that makes sense here now.

Nothing else matters now which is why the morale is so low here & everybody knows it. I wouldn't coasting off of the work/profits of two years ago, I'd say more like staying afloat.

The dinosaur's days are numbered, just a matter of when.

Upper mismanagement doesn't give a crap, they will get their millions either way.

People care, even the ones let go. Mattel was once swell.

As stated previously, appeals to common sense fall on deaf ears at Mattel these days. Our overpaid and short sighted management team can't see beyond the next quarter's results. They don't care about employees, only investors. It's a slow motion train wreck. Nothing happens quickly at Mattel, and we are still coasting off of our last good work from a few years ago. Even significant and proper changes made today wouldn't really have a visible effect for 2-3 years. And believe me, the changes being made now are not good. Sinclair and Dickson get rich and fiddle as Mattel burns. You would think that they'd actually be grateful for the millions they've made and would dig in and work for a real turnaround. But instead they continue to pack their golden parachutes fuller as the plane goes down, waiting until the last moment to jump out. So much for inspired leadership. Anyone left here who isn't actively looking for a better place to work is just foolish.

I'm so damn glad I left on my own terms when I did as they would have whacked me for sure. This last round they let go the best, talented, hardest working model maker in the building because of his tenure/salary, nothing else matters there anymore if ur not an asskicking Director or above.

F*&% that place............. he was so miserable in the end that he was actually hoping to get laid off.

What I think is crazy is how an employee would care about the health of Mattel anymore. Mattel does not exist for the long term care of the employee. The direction is very clear right now and the path is not deviating. This might sound pessimistic to some. What Mattel has going for it is a few brands that have value, good distribution channels and factories to make some of it's products (Hot Wheels, Barbie). To become more profitable they have cut the cost of employing expensive U.S. based workers and replaced them with employees overseas. A following step might be to consolidate the U.S. locations into one. Most likely closing the NYC office and maybe East Aurora one day. It's admirable that some of you really care about the health of Mattel but it's crazy if you think Mattel cares about you.

Execs know there is a revolving door for management and only short term results and keeping the shareholders happy really matter for their personal career. They also know they will get a golden parachute once they are asked to leave. That is nothing new though and definitely not unique to Mattel. It Is a bigger issue in terms of how exec performance is measured in the United States and the huge packages they get once they leave even if they fail.
