Thread regarding Cabela's Inc. layoffs

How can this be happening?

I have been reading these posts for a couple of months now.

What I find interesting is there is no middle ground. Looks to me like the majority of the people posting are angry and scared about their future, whereas, the few people who are being positive have a completely opposite view of the situation.

I do believe there is a small degree of posters who just want to stir up controversy through inflammatory rhetoric.

So, I guess I have a question. What is really going on? By the tone of most of the posts, it is really bad. There are too many people who are naming names and citing specifics that would lead a reasonable person to believe that both Sidney and Cabela's are so corrupt there should be some type of state or federal investigation.

If the negative posts are even moderately accurate, there are laws being broken and the appropriate authorities are no paying attention.

I am not surprised all of this is happening. We moved to Sidney in 2013 and within six months of living in the community myself and significant other could see the writing on the wall. The company was hiring to many people and building to many stores to quickly. We got profit sharing the first year and then nothing the second. We purposefully didn't buy a home in Sidney because we had a strong feeling that selling it would be difficult and we knew we were not there for the long haul. Cabela's is very much a GOB company and it was almost impossible to fit in as an outsider. A prerequisite for any job with the company should be that you must drink excessively. While our time there wasn't a complete waste and it is kinda cool to tell people you actually lived in the middle of nowhere, we are glad we got out when we did.

The big wigs of the company and the people they hired ruined the town with the champagne and caviar dreams. When and if the town folds the people left with be stuck paying for the pool, school and higher property taxes

so many angry people in Sidney, on b0th sides of the fence. Glad I do not live there any more, the stress must be thick enough to cut it with a knife.

I hope for the sake of the community things level out soon. So many good people who have left or forced out by this madness

Early on the radio station put out an editorial that they would not report on all these stories coming out that were only based I rumors. And they have kept to their word. What is wrong with not wanting to keep fear in the people of the entire town. Every month or couple of weeks the "news" stories come out. They are meant to keep stress levels high. And she was right about not following the worthless paper and not doing that one story. The radio station has nothing to do with cabelas. I'm pretty sure they get screwed by them to and the gal on the radio has enough respect for all the businesses in Sidney to not do that. If anything cabelas should tell their board member who owns the world herald to stop writing theses stupid stories.

i am truly suprised at the amount of comments posted, Sad that it takes a forum such as this for it to happen, and I am just as guilty as the next. But i value my safety my families safety.

I would like to address the so called 'elite' of Sidney and Cabelas. Are you so ignorant to expect that the people would not grow tired of your games? How long before the threats and imitidiation would not longer have any effect.

Your strangelhold on the community it quickly coming to an end. It has been said that man with nothing to lose is a dangerous man. Well there are a lot of dangerous people in the community, that still believe in the community.

The power elite of Cabelas congratulations on destroying the commnity to your profit.

To the radio station congrats on being their little puppy broadcasting the only news that is allowed by the board of directors same goed to the paper. I guess censorship does work.

To the fake doctor with the computer printed diploma, go ahead and keep fooling yourself and others, manupulating your clients to do the will of the council I guess thoer is a profit in dishonesty.

To the city councl, youhave made your money at the expense of the public. enjoy yours spoils.

Sidney is burning own around you and you all cry all is well allis well, while planning your escape route. Leaving those behind wih no wayout to clean up you mess and pay the bills.

One day their wil be a reckoning!

By the way things look, Cabela's is going to fold.

What a shame. A family owned company has been ruined by greedy corporate parasites.

Look at it this way; once the company closes it doors what is going to happen to Sidney? It will go right down the toilet. There will be no major employer/tax payer in town, so a large portion of the population will have to relocate. The current power brokers will have no one to lord over, because there will be no one.

Eventually, Sidney will become the ghost town it deserves to be.

It's a backwater, inbred little fiefdom in the middle of nowhere.

The Cabela family built that town and now they have no control and the stock holders keep demanding more and more and give less and less. The inevitable is going to happen. Sidney is going to rot and revert back to prairie. Perhaps the can turn it into a prairie dog hunting destination.

The Cabela family started out with a great idea and grew it. They treated their employees like family, but once they lost control and went public, it all started to erode.

What will happen to the ever loyal KSID when they have no one to listen to them and no sponsors?

I never lived in Sidney but worked for Cabela's for a number of years. I have worked at large corporations but have never experienced the lack of professionalism or lack of respect for employees as at Cabela's. Very immature and inexperienced folks at director level.

Anything that is said by someone in the corporate offices is taken as fact with very little effort to verify. It does no good to challenge any actions as the HR and management team are tied together. I had an employee who worked for me that was not performing, I was following the process to develop an improvement plan. My director and HR got involved and the employee was released in one day. Rules and policies are ignored or just used to fit their needs.

It's small town politics at every level. If you are accepted, then things are great. But if you do not suck up to right people, play golf, drink a lot, agree with every executive decision, then there's hell to pay. If you are outspoken, you are gone. If you dare criticize the schools, a local business, or a relative/employee of an executive, you are gone. Working at Cabela's is kind of cool, but your wife will hate Sidney and your kid's will hate the schools.

i do not believe that it is a few malcontents who are trying to stir things up. there is a lot of angry and hurt people because of the community and Cabelas, i believe that they see this as an avenue to vent safely, in incognito with out fear of reprisal and retribution.

in the last ten years Sidney has become a very corrupt and contemptible community.

there is saying there is small town politics state politics national politics and there is Sidney politics, prior to my departure I was told by an individual that he would rather put up with Chicago politics rather than the politics of Sidney Nebraska and Cabelas
