Thread regarding Schlumberger Ltd. layoffs

Can I become a President of Schlumberger at 30 years old? What do y'all think?

My end of year reviews and political skills are all outstanding.

And that's exactly it! Yes you may have gone to and excelled at a great university but that does not mean you'll be able to hit the ground running and automatically excel at SLB or in the upstream oil and gas industry on the whole. You've got to, in conjunction with your education, first gain YEARS OF EXPERIENCE from working with and learning from the experienced folks who are hopefully willing to teach and mentor before you can consider yourself to actually be skilled.

This is not valid as SLB personnel are highly skilled from best university in the world

I think that Dunning-Kruger said it best below:

The Dunning–Kruger effect is a cognitive bias in which relatively unskilled persons suffer illusory superiority, mistakenly assessing their ability to be much higher than it really is. Dunning and Kruger attributed this bias to a metacognitive inability of the unskilled to recognize their own ineptitude and evaluate their own ability accurately.

Dunning and Kruger proposed that, for a given skill, incompetent people will:

fail to recognize their own lack of skill

fail to recognize the extent of their inadequacy

fail to accurately gauge skill in others

recognize and acknowledge their own lack of skill only after they are exposed to training for that skill

SLB is best of best. But that's only because all the other companies are complete sh--e.

It's makes no difference who you are better than. It's who you are closest friends with. And SLB is no longer the best of the best, contrary to what they still believe. So go ahead, beat the guy next to you, step on him if you must and then see how far you get and perhaps you will find just where you lost your soul.

When I joined SLB they told me that my destiny is in my hands and the future depends on me. Everything and anything is possible in this great company if you work hard and outperform everybody else. Beating the the guy next to you, delivering results and having a great relationship with your boss is the key to success. I love the challenge and I am still moving up the ladder and just got promoted recently. Now is a great time to take advantage of all the experienced people being laid off and step up to the challenge. In SLB you are the best of the best and you need to be like a world class athlete dedicated to winning like Roger Federer

I still can t believe it, some people think SLB is the world. take a look at the numbers, and the world economy. SLB (as Paal said) is in for rough ride. could SLB/cameron ect... survive, probably. but the world markets is whats driving layoffs. The real numbers don t lie. I don t think anyone has a crystal ball for the future. So stop living in a bubble, the oil bubble has popped. Prez at 30, ha ha good one.

A singular ability to totally misread the world economy and believe that you are a master of the universe because you can charge silly money will put you in good stead. Another complete inability to screw up manufacturing because your 6sigma bears no relation to the one that actually works will lower yourself to Schlumbergers' already low standards. Whoever Schlumberer employs as economists need to be publicly rogered at dawn...they are total sh1te. Also Rols-Royce will not exactly be queuing at the door for Schlumbergers' laid off engineers.

Great end of year reviews and political skills are important but not enough. You must be willing to bend over and take in the assevery time your boss asks you and some of those older SLB bosses can be quite rough with the young guys. If you can do this and smile at the same time you will have a great chance

Yes, it is absolutely possible. However, you will need to also have unbelievably good cocksucking skills. Furthermore, you may need to be able to stretch you sphincter enough to accommodate medium to large sized fists.
