The "advanced business systems and processes" you speak of will probably get you up to 75% of where you need to be at most. The other 25% you need to know you will only get after years of experience and learning from older, skilled mentors so you don't make the same screw ups they made. You don't know it now because you're naive enough to actually believe that "advanced business systems and processes" will get you there but just remember that last 25% you don't know is key. And it's not some old geezer saying this either, I'm only in my mid-30's.

Yep the senior guys write the process from experience and then get laid off but it doesn't work so easy
With advanced business systems and processes mentors are a thing of the past. That's why you can be a manager in your twenties in big blue and it costs much less than having an older guy
Wow! What ever happened to the days of the senior personnel guiding and mentoring the younger ones who were then willing to pay their dues and learn from previous mistakes of others so not to make the same ones themselves? I'm only in my mid-30's and I can appreciate this.
They like to hire us young guys becAuse we try new things and welcome the transformation ideas and implement them
The old guys get stuck in the past and need to move on for the new stars of the future like myself who want to make it to the top
why do you think they pay young people lower? it's not, normally the entry salary is really driven by all job market to attract young talented people. Therefore, more chance they got better entry salary than you and closer salary range to you.
They will be more motivated to do sh--ty job that you don't want to do and when it's time.. you need to be let go buddy.
the rule is very simple in working: every employee has to be more productive each year, if you think you can be relax because you are a senior person, that means:
-
you are a coc*suc* ass
-
you are a lazy person
-
you'll be fired soon
Instead of PIPs this year, all employees will receive a Paal Kibsgaard bobble-head doll.
nothing is guaranteed in life, but death and taxes. And the young ones will be blind without the experienced people. So let the young braggarts fall on their faces.

we are just happy to get a salary even if its lower than the old guys . I need a career and a clear path to my bosses job within a couple of years and you are guaranteed that in schlumberger
They do it because these companies pay the young quite less. Cost savings......if only the young cats knew how much salary gap their getting bent over the table on they'd might think twice about the it....
Old farts crying?...what did y'all do with all that money from when y'all was young?...should've saved enough to start your own business
In with the new out with the old
It's not our fault that the company prefers to lay off our bosses who were once young suck ups themselves. One day it will happen to me unless of course I become a President which is my goal
those who see no possibilities will never find new ones, US is still the land of possibilities live free and work like a professional you are, never forget that
It is easier to rinse the asstaste out than find another well paying job
Young suck ups have had to take the place of the 'old timers' who saw trouble early last year and took a decent exit package while they had the chance. I'm not saying that new blood is necessarily always a good thing but sometimes there's little alternative. Don't think this is a problem specific to just Schlumberger. They'll either see us through the storm or sink us - only time will tell.
Your only 26........
One day you'll look up and you'll be 47 pal. It'll happen before you know it. You won't even notice.
I replaced an aging manager in NAM in January who was 47 and I am only 26 and grateful for the opportunity. In SLB if you are good enough you are old enough
We are doing just fine and getting more responsibility by the day and soon I hope to get my first segment managers job once my boss gets laid off at the end of this week.
