Hi all, I have been keeping up with your posts and this story. Still interested in talking to employees about what has been going on within Cabela's. Any recent layoffs? What are you hearing? Please give me a call - 402-444-1414. I know everyone is scared, but you can talk to me in confidence.

What is frustrating about the media reports is they repeat the same old thing over and over..just stir the pot. And the source is always an anonymous source "who is familiar with the situation". There is no credibility. If someone wants to shoot off their mouth, they need to provide their name and position in the company. The rumors aren't doing anyone any good. So, if you want to report on "the story" please do, just engage in responsible journalism, if there is such a thing.
I have absolutely no sympathy for the Cabela's management. They've behaved reprehensibly. My heart goes out to the employees who have their entire lives staked in this company. Thank God my family escaped when we did.
Fairness doctrine? Are you kidding me?
The newspaper did run that story about bass pro.
The radio station did not.
The radio station ran the SEC story, the opening of two stores and the One about the practice thing on the cabelad campus.
Before you start spreading what either entity did or did not do why don't you read the stories on both their websites or buy a paper or tune in.
You people are pathetic. You'd bitch if you were hung with a gold rope.
I have no complaints about working on the Hill. That was perhaps the only glimmer of light in Sidney. My job allowed me to put my family first. My management team gave me the tools succeed. I am saddened to see Cabela's take this path. It pains me to hear of others who had bad experiences in their departments because I have nothing but wonderful things to say about the company until the passing of Mr. Cabela. As it often does, the culture and direction of the company took an immediate and drastic change.
My family eventually moved out of town because we couldn't find appropriate housing. At some point just having a great job isn't worth the daily stresses of the community. The horror stories of taking landlords through the justice system in town is a known and discussed waste of time, so we decided to speak with our finances and relocate. Of the employees who I became friends with that were hired on with me, only one that I know of still holds a position and the rest relocated to escape the community. Too many families were in the same situations and desperately asking for the city's help, but they have no interest in the condition of the properties. We haven't missed Sidney in the least but the company we knew as Cabela's will always be remembered in the fondest ways possible.
Sidney is corrupt....to a point where you just shake your head...what to do?...really...what are we going to do about it?
looking back and contemplating my stay in Sidney, i now realize how caustic the community is. The political, social and economic environment is extremely unhealthy, mentality and physically.
The back biting, rumor mongering high school, nay day care, attitude is horrific.
It is my hope and prayer that the community will mature and leave the childish narcissistic attitude behind.
Then maybe Sidney will begin to heal and grow. Until then the decay an down ward spiral into destruction will only continue until nothing is left but empty shells and skeletal remains of once was a vibrant and prosperous and progressive community.
This is a wonderful example of the results of greed, narcissism, nepotism and dishonesty. All are cancers from within growing silently until nothing remains on the interior and the shell collapses upon its self because there is not longer any support.
Maybe from the ashes Sidney can rebuild itself once again.
I know from first hand experience that not only are the police chief, sheriff, and city inspector corrupt, but the judges are too. The city does not protect their citizens from run down slums that are rented to families. Those slum lords do not have to follow any sort of ordinances or laws regarding their properties. They do not have to provide so much as a smoke detector in their properties even though it is required by law. The small claims system is a joke where landlords are allowed to present here say evidence, personal opinions as well as purger themselves to make the tenants look bad. Yet the tenant is not allowed to present pictures or witnesses to collaborate the conditions. Some of the places for rent need to be condemned yet the city inspector says,"I will talk to the landlord" Yet nothing changes until you move out of Sidney! So the corruption is in the ENTIRE government of Sidney. I agree someone needs to check that out. Do a little digging you will be amazed at what goes on in the sh-- hole of a town!
Don't talk to this liberal trash "news" source.
Unless they pay of course ball have a price.
I agree with the post regarding people getting let go as soon as they return from medical leave. Remember the men who committed suicide because of the stress.
It is a sorry state of affairs when out of safety you have to post you comments in a free nation because of self appointed socia police, consisting of corrupt business people and their deceitful practices, politician who claim to have the interest of the public whilst staring at the mirror of their reflections. Self appointed doctors who who have computer printed diplomas using their positions of trust to manipulate individuals to accomplish their biddings. For self profit and worth.
A city office more concerned with themselves than the community at large. Individuals appointed to department heads because of parental associations
A police department that is concerned more with who has the wherewithal than the application of the law unbiased.
I could go on. Yet my point is this to speak up is to place your very life and your families lives ion danger, or uourbfreedom at the least. Trumped up and false charges alleged and dropped contingent upon your silence and the proper application of monetary gratuities to the proper individuals. Or forced to leave town in order for charges to be mysteriously forgotten
Sidney Nebraska still lives up to its moniker of the toughest town on the tracks. The only true difference is no the thieves and criminals now where suits , dresses and fine clothes. Have self imposed titles and are in positions of authority
The Pundit returns?
I wish you luck finding anyone willing to stick their neck out to speak to you. You have to understand they treat their employees like property. Everyone, other than upper management, feels like a beaten dog.
They control most aspects of all of their employees lives through threats and intimidation. Schedules are designed so you can't have a life.
Get sick, come in or don't get paid. Get a chronic illness, better quit, because they'll fire you eventually. They always find a reason to get rid of people.
They will lie, cheat and fabricate anything about anyone, Its in their nature.
I've seen people who were on the outs mysteriously fail drug tests and/or have trumped up violations brought up against them. I knew some of these people and no way were they taking anything or stepped outside of the Cabela's crazy quilt policies.
They are a cruel lot.
As one who used to reside in that 'community ' I can tell you it is not a place for many people to live. Threats and intimidation happen al the time. From the religious organization to Cabelas. When I was crucified I was told by a lawyer " What did you think was going to happen ...... ? When I was crucified people inside of Cabelas said I knew it was all over when __happened. Step out of line and you are crucified in the public eye. the community and Cabelas. It really does remind me of the stroy called the lottery. Many fine people and merchants have had thier repuations destroyed by the elite of Cabelas and Sidney, thier businesses and carreres ruined and forced to leave for speaking out of the truth of Sidney and Cabelas. The only way you can get legal representation is if you go to the east side of the state.
I agree the you should stop wasting your time with the Cabelas story dig into the entire political ramifications of Cabelas and Sidney. The entire place is full of corruption, domestic turmoil and greed.
Cheyenne County:
1 Newspaper - unwilling to publish what is listed on national news sites about the community, content guided/governed by Cabela's and city officials. Official county publication, sees all legal notice revenue, political advertising revenue, and advertising routed from the Nebraska Press Association (much of that, government funded)
1 radio station - unwilling to publish what is listed on national news sites about the community, content guided/governed by Cabela's and city officials. Official broadcast source for the area, sees revenues by way of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (often government funded advertising), political advertising revenue, etc.
From 1969 to 2011, the Fairness Doctrine provided regulation to ensure some level of balance in media. Specifically, regarding radio stations:
"A license permits broadcasting, but the licensee has no constitutional right to be the one who holds the license or to monopolize a radio frequency to the exclusion of his fellow citizens. There is nothing in the First Amendment which prevents the Government from requiring a licensee to share his frequency with others.... It is the right of the viewers and listeners, not the right of the broadcasters, which is paramount"
Fairness doctrine was revoked in 2011, and as such - here we are. Best way to deal with it, if we don't like the results - don't support what's there. Don't support the advertisers, and let them know that their support of filtered and bought-out press leads us to spend our dollars elsewhere.
The voice of the community comes from the community - by way of the dollars we spend. As long as nothing changes, nothing will change.
Love the posts and you left out the discounts the employees get. Also whatever the company wanted the town gave it to them - school and pool. Thank goodness the bond issue failed for the elementary school. If you don't work for the company on the hill and belong in a clique you are a nobody. Sidney is similiar to Stepford Wives/ they control everything
What is unique is that the local radio staion owner criticizes and lambastes the local paper for running the story concerning the possible aquisition of Cabelas by Bass Pro and Goldman Sachs calling it irresponsible reporting .
Running a childsih and high school rant and tyraid all over face book,
Then posting on her radios website the glowing fincacial report as well as the story concerning the opening of two more stores
Yet refuses to post the story concering the sec violstions Lord forbid we print anything against the great messiah Cabelas or any of it's 'priets" .
After all the name calling and bullying on face book the paper not even ran the story. Hmmmm.
This has all the trappings of the political bullying and nepotismthat Sidney is famous for.
Say nothing against Cabelas or the city goverment. Fall into line play by the rules pay the right people and all is well and your life is good and you are succesful.
Step out of line ruffle the feathes of those in power, threaten their power base and see what happens.
Could this the reason there has been three chiefs of police and at least a half a dozen editors for the local paper in the last ten years?
Possibly because they dared to speak the truth without permission and the edited script from the powers to be?
Put one to thinking. does it not?
As one who used to reside in that 'community ' , good luck on getting anybosy to step forward. Fear threats intimidation are the watch words here. Step out of line and you are crucified in the public eye. the community reminds me of the stroy called he lottery. Just scratch the surface and you will see how corrupt that 'community' is. Many fine people have had thier repuations destroyed by the elite of sidney, thier businesses or carreres ruined and force toleave for speaking out of the truth of Sidney and Cabelas.
Funny how he heat is on and the ciy inspector just up and leaves, the city mananger resigns the emergancy manager is fired the chief of police is thrown under the bus.
How three of the five council members were cabelas executives
Stop wasting you time with the cabelas story dig into the politics of Sidney and you will find a true Payton place just briming with storie of corrupion greed etc.
Call Jenn Peel or Lesley Yovish at the Hamburg store. They always have plenty to say about all that goes on within Cabelas.
Was it just the inventory teams in the stores too? Did any other departments get hit too?
Same with the Cheektowaga NY and Charleston WV stores
Hamburg just "Restructured " the Inventory team .Only 1 full time person left from a team of 6! Just wondering who will be next!
