Rumor is they are furiously counting only ALS inventory due to possible sale.
Although, I find it hard to believe they would sale ALS globally, they might be willing to part with the North American or just the US division. I've heard Benard bemoan the cost of doing business in North America many times on conference calls.
It also seems National Oilwell has a couple of billion in cash and another three in credit that they intend to make an acquisition. National Oilwell is almost all offshore and wants to invest in onshore services during this downturn.
With the Halliburton/Baker deal falling through it does seem more likely someone will make a play for Weatherford in the near future.
