The closure has not happened and the economic impact has already been devastating to the community. Real estate for sale at all time high. Families leaving for more secure future. Small businesses are closing and leaving the community. Taxes are completely out of sight.

The future is very grim for Sidney. It will take years to repair the damage that has been done. If it can be repaired at all

Sidney is in BIG trouble if Cabela's closes. I did some calculations based on the employee numbers from the Sidney web site. All numbers are directly from the Sidney site and are approximations.

For all major private employers in Sidney, 3,164 people have jobs with those employers. Of that total, approximately 1900 are employed by Cabelas. 1,264 people are employed by other entities, which would be directly impacted by a Cabela's sale. So, Cabela's employs 636 more people than the combined total of other major private employers.

Now, the additional impact of a closure would undoubtedly effect numerous public employees, teachers, police, public works, health care workers, service industry workers and many more.
