The last comment makes a lot of sense going forward as I've been saying the exact same thing. Once the dividends get cut all hell should break loose. Barbie pink sales is the MattHell green so if she can't be fixed it's only a matter of time.
All the senior execs will still get their golden parachutes while the real workers will just have to fend for themselves to sees who stays.
The antitrust thing could be a problem for a Hasbro purchase/merger but it's only toys, but I'm not an attorney.
As far as executing the licenses go, they are crap because they have clueless, can't draw, do nothing middle mismanagers & directors who are art directing cost reduced crap. The action figures are very poorly sculpted in China & are so cost reduced they can't even afford proper paint deco.
Same with the play sets. Cant wait for Q2 results :)
If Sinclair doesn't make it through the end of the year, it's because of a series of earnings misses. They already have one miss in Q1. Earnings misses mean a dividend cut. Investment community loses faith in management and the board. Activist investors try to take seats on the board. At that point they install new management of their choosing and make bigger changes than what has already been tried. Or they rearrange things to sell the company, either in full or in pieces. Selling off in pieces is more likely since there are few toy companies big enough to take the whole thing without running into antitrust problems. I put the likelihood of this at 50%.
It's pretty clear Sinclair won't make it to the end of the year. Richard is positioned as the next guy up, but can he make it to the finish line? Something tells me he will trip over his own dick at some point. So who will be next in line for succession?
No, I'm saying that maybe the licensees share blame not just Mattel.
You're pretty much making the point that Mattel has been clueless in not only the licenses they choose but how they choose to position said licenses. Nevermind the cost reduced bland crap that was at retail for BvS. Consumers are too smart to pay that much money for garbage. Rgeardless of the character.
Regarding Cars 2, Planes or DC, is it the product thato is the issue or the licence? Cars 2 and Planes didn't exactly resonate at the box office, no kids were clamoring for Fin McMissile, hell, can 3-4 year olds even understand the concept of a spy, Jesus, there was a torture scene! Barely anything that kids could relate to from the 1st movie, barely any racing. So is it Pixar or Mattel's fault?
DC, same thing, Movies that are so dark you can't take kids too, how can you expect kids to what they don't see? May be, in the case of DC, today's action figure is found over in the building aisle with Lego. What is the demographic of those that are purchasing the Stars Wars items, what sells at what price points, it might be the 30 year old kids proving up those sales and Lego grabbing the 5 and under sales.
Shouldn't be too long before Mega gets infected with the dreaded MattHellitis bacteria which is incredibly aggressive & life threatening. There is no known cure to date and no apparently no research has been funded.
MattHellitis takes awhile to present itself but the symptoms are all to similar once it strikes. Additional hiring of useless SVP's, VP's. & Directors, musical marketing chairs/shuffling, PLM, DesDock, boondoggle trips, cost reducing, very low morale, dismal sales, falling profits, & falling stock prices are inevitable.
Common sense gets replaced with stupidity, arrogance, & greed. Proper decision making is also impossible to maintain which is quite similar to long & short term memory loss during so called approval meetings.
Impossible to diagnose, it is very malignant, a true silent killer of Brands & once thriving profit making companies.
shuffle? more like forklift or roll with a team of 10 men. everything that elephant turd touches turns to crap. didn't bring in a solid license when at the helm of NYC.

MattHell even managed to trash what was once an evergreen line of DPCars...............their product for Cars 2 was poorly designed, over priced, with non sensical play patterns & crapped the bed at retail.

Hasbro is laughing their heads as they read this blog. What a joke MattHell became, but the Directors, VP's, SVP's, & EVP's will all get their blood money, no worries.
The fact that they ever expect a movie property merch that isn't Disney to do well, ESPECIALLY DC stuff is pathetic. It's more bragging rights that they have the license at this point considering how the only thing that Mathell does well nowadays is burn bridges.
That will never happen unless MattHell gets purchased by Hasbro & they purge the entire hellhole..........or the dump get purchased privately & turns into an LLC just selling the core Brands.
The overhead gets deciminated & the place could actually turn a nice profit.

The Q2 results will be just as dismal as Tricky Dicky actually said how great the Superman vs. Batman action figures were going to do & we all know the sales stunk up the joint. I believe he also quoted on Dinotruks which sold even worse. Perhaps the poker game price of entry will lower by then, or,....... wait until they have to lower the dividend because ca$h flow becomes a problem & MattHell stocks plummet & the price of the dump lowers even more.
