Thread regarding University of Phoenix layoffs

UEH 359 & UEH 360

My fellow FA's, how much do you love explaining this one to students? I also love it when you tell the students Enroll Rep that they have this C-code and the ER acts like they have never heard of it.

The student asks, "What does unusual enrollment history mean?"

FA's = "well, it is basically in the title. The DOE is saying there is something unusual about the number of schools you have attended over the last few years. The DOE is looking for clarification as to why you have transferred schools so many times and also wanting to know if you earned academic credit at each school "

Or, you could use the abridged version and say "essentially the DOE knows what you are up to and the game is up. The gravy train has derailed. Time to get a job, loser "

That might work as well, although if you get monitored it might not go over too well. Use that explanation at your own risk.

I completely agree with you all and sometimes, I wish I could say the abridged version. I loved my job despite how frustrating dealing with finaid chasers and repetitious paperwork gathering was but I was planning to give in my 2 weeks after my maternity leave to stay home with my baby. I'm glad I was able to get in on the severance opportunity. Hopefully, things work out for those who opted to remain.

@tshirt - have you been able to find work since leaving Uopx? With having Uopx on your resume for employment and education? I think that's the biggest concern for us current and former employees. Hearing mixed things. Obviously it depends if you worked enrollment, finance, etc.

@jaded Dec; didn't get the same good severance currently being offered, but they offered me a severance. Most (most) of the folks I worked with in finance (advisors) were always trying to the right thing but were being pushed by management to push the envelope as far as they could, but in last 18 months to 2 years managers don't have you back with students. There is some blame to go to the students, that are just chasing the financial aid money. When a student calls you in March and they aren't scheduled to start until May and they want to know when they can get their financial aid, red flag and when you explain they have to be in attendance, chances are you will see them on a FCR ASAP instead of waiting until their original May start date. I was so tired of doing things that should have been done by other departments, gathering documents, expected to walk students thru FAW and FAFSA, gathering COEs, 1905s, hello what happened to getting this stuff at enrollment. Our computers systems don't upload documents, all departments aren't on the same systems and can't see notes made by each other, so many tech issues that keep happening, SRM creating duplicate and unnecessary tasks that you have already worked. Some managers allowing behavior that others don't, no consistency in policies between managers. Big hot mess and their image is so damaged. I have UOP on my resume and have a degree they required me to get to keep my job that may at this point be useless and damaging on a resume. So sad, so students aren't only ones that may have gotten ripped off, they were doing it to students and any whistle blowers are gone or will be. The whole alphabet is auditing or has audited UOP, FTC, SEC, DOE, VA, HLC....they are done. Hang in there if you can:)

Oh yeah, one last thing, students with this C-code should not be cleared to REG. We should hold them out until after they submit all their unofficial transcripts or get their PJ approved. These students are typically the ones in a hurry for their excess funds, so they will get pissed at us FA's when we get to break the news to them that they won't be seeing excess funds anytime soon or possibly no excess funds at all.

Dear Jaded, Mentally Exhausted Senior FA---Isn't it a shame all that was not explained to the student prior to the student making it to the Finance Advisor who is also know as the 'clean up crew'. I feel for you and am happy to say I'm no longer having to ask for scripts from managers on 'how do you say this to loser student' who has been skipping around schools taking a little PELL here and a little PELL there. And they can't even get UNOFFICIAL transcripts. Were there any 'probing' questions asked by enrollment that would have talked about the student's educational history that might have shed light on UEH situation? Nahh...why bother, let finance find a creative way to make it all work...pull a rabbit out of your hat and take all the heat from the students for missing documents and missing discounts and vouchers and on an on, systems that don't work and teammates that don't show up, but you get their calls. I not sure telling you to hang in there is good advice, but most of us have bills to pay and mouths to feed...but it's nice to be free at last and not have to wonder why we have to keep finding ways out of messes we did not create. UOP keeps changing the rules, so we can't figure out what's going on...lot of things not clearly defined in Employee Handbook Version 9 million. Manager Discretion is out of control. Leaving certainly brought my blood pressure down. UOP is now a toxic, stressful place that is in a downward spiral at this point. Hang in as long as you can, my thoughts and prayers are with you. Been there, done that and GOTTheTShirt.
