Has anyone here actually been through a liquidation at Kmart ? I was wondering how long it takes. I have heard some people say 6 weeks and others say 10. And then there is an additional 1 to 2 weeks after the store closes to remove fixtures and hardware. I am also interested in hearing from people who had purged their stockrooms prior to the liquidation if that speeds up the process.

I did the IT disposal at a store earlier this year. We just tossed all the registers in the dumpster. Most of it went to corporate. Some things went to a nearby store (mostly price scanners, phones, label printers, and some RMUs/cradles).
The liquidation is usually 8 weeks from experience then an addititional 1 to 2 weeks for store shutdown, cleaning, shipping equipment out, ect. I helped close my store in 2014 and was there till the last day.
FYI: To those who have to handle the IT worksheet the liquidator gives you. I did the IT clean out at my store and we had to ship our POS system back to the warehouse.
Now at the liquidation sale the registers are either sold for $100 dollars or shipped back to Genco for recycling. It all depends on your liquidator.

Went through this and it is not worth sticking around. The liquidators will come in and set up shop, SHC will raise all prices to normal levels and then offer a percentage off to start and each week the percentage will be greater until after about a month you will be at the prices you have now. You will constantly move merchandise and fixtures as the inventory is decreased, you will work at least 10-12 hours a day or more if you are in management or want any severance pay. As the time draws near to the end the big wigs will come in and make you take every fixture down and every wall that has ever been built, paint all walls to original colors, clean every corner of the store, take down every sign etc. Basically, get the store back to original condition, if your store was leased. And then and only when this is completed will you be allowed to look for another job or get your severance. The severance process in itself is a pain with hours spent on the phone trying to find out who to talk to and what forms to fill out. Remember, you have no more HR person to ask you have to go through the Sears corporate phone system with Sears customer service results. Our store closed in the last rounds of closings,2015, and i am still fighting them for my severance and benefits. Good luck
