Thread regarding Cabela's Inc. layoffs

WAITING FOR ANSWERS

Watching the Cabela's jet land last night at the Sidney airport, I couldn't help but wonder if any decisions had been made today.

We all continue to wait for answers. The only information shared within corporate walls from our leaders is that they can't tell us anything. Everything is under strategic review.

So we wait. We wait to see if we will have jobs in the future. We wait to see if we will own a home we are unable to sell. We wait to see if we will have to move from our family to find work.

The city can't sell bonds for the new pool and some construction projects are at a standstill. We've even seen projects cancelled before they're started.

Yet at work we are encouraged to remain positive and optimistic. We are asked to support a company that no longer supports its core values of honesty and integrity.

There are some that still believe that Cabela's would never leave Sidney. I'm afraid they don't realize those decisions are being made by people who may have never stepped foot in Sidney. It's a business deal and just another financial transaction for the investment firms.

Apparently the guy who called two people in two separate posting idiots is the same person. Fact of the matter is, this person is angry at the people who Cabela's is hurting. So, they aren't the idiots, he is.

Personally I would look for a job outside of Cabela's and Sidney. We don't know what we are going to do yet either ,wife is the only one working due to layoff. I would not trust the chain or management for job security. No one wants to live here anymore.

As my wife and I sat outside, enjoying the cooler air, a light breeze, birds, etc... we both felt unsettled. I said "If we were sitting in another town, with the same weather, evening, etc., we would feel like we were in a good place. But, the reality is, we were sitting in Sidney, dependent on Cabela's and not having a clue as to what will happen to our town, our homes, our jobs, etc. It is to the point, we cannot enjoy our time here any longer. We don't feel like we have any choices....wait and drink the corporate kool-aide that we shouldn't worry with no information, or look for jobs elsewhere now, leave behind a home we can't sell and hope that's the right decision. Either way, we feel like we lose. Question is, do we want to work for Cabela's even if it does survive?

Steal your house from you? Gone Gone Gone

We are out of there thank God. When we sold several people tried to steal our house from us because they knew we had moved on. Luckily we made a nice little profit in a short time. But we are free of the intimidation and back stabbing that happens in Cabela's Corporate and the town of Sidney. The worst was leaving our family behind in Nebraska. It hurt and still hurts.

my heart breaks as I watch the slow destruction of the town I once called home. I hope and pray that Sidney will heal and rebound from this, but in all reality this time the blow is destructive enough that recovery will be measured in years if not decades. If recovery ever does happen.

Having to leave the community I was born in grew up was married in raised my family in, has been heart wrenching. Yet one has to survive.

And you cannot provide for your family on hopes and good intentions.

I don't live in Sidney, but you all are in a horrible situation. Those houses are expensive and I can't see people being able to just up and leave to a new city with a new home while paying for those mortgages. Best of luck to you and hopefully there will be some type of relief package (doubtful though). I guess the new company could help relocate those it deems worthy of being hired, but I can't see a retail organization to do that. They aren't a tech org or anything.

How could someone with only 11% stake have so much influence?
