I've seen a few rounds of lay offs and golden handshakes twice with Atena in the past 7 years in the north east

Was so upset I misspelled Aetna! How ridiculous, but that illustrates how ridiculous the situation is! We have to live in fear? My God, there has to be a bettter way.

After reading these stories I am very, very nervous about my job. I thought we would be given advanced notice but I see now that may be totally false. I am so fed up with the "corporate line". Is it so hard for companies to do the right thing and give some kind of warning? I'm a single parent, for God's sake, the sole wage earner, not to diminish two- earner couples. For God's sake, Atnea, do right by your enployeees.

I was job eliminated in October 2012......while in vacation! Got a text from my boss to call into a conference call and was told my job was gone effective I'mmediately.

So yeah.....Aetna has had job elimination in the last 10 years.

I went on vacation overseas for 10 days in 2014 and had no access to the internet or phone....came back home only to discover half my team was gone due to layoffs.

Are there any lay offs coming soon. It is the end of 2016. How much longer?

Wow under a rock or flat out lying? As others mentioned, they do not usually announce layoffs bit they are happening constantly. There were announced layoffs in 2011 and will be again next month. There was a period a few years back (after Coventry) where there were layoffs every 4-6 weeks. Expect the same if the Humana deal goes through.

Have worked for Aetna over 20 years. Current CEO is the most ruthless, and that trickles down. He wants to build his empire, and has done everything in his power to get rid of experienced (ie older) workers. I can't tell you how many great long term employees have been blindsided by sudden layoff.

They are offering an ER package, and the very week they opened the offer they just quietly laid off a bunch of my colleagues. It's an extremely stressful and uncertain environment.

The person who claimed there haven't been layoffs in 10 years must be talking about another firm. Aetna went through significant layoffs in 2011 (others before and since too) in which early retirement packages (ERP) and involuntary layoffs were executed. This info is readily available using a simple online search.

The person that says no lays offs, maybe you live under a rock. Right before the acquisition of Coventry, there were layoffs in Aetna and then lays off at Coventry. Aetna continues to lay off. Worse managed company I've ever worked for. Senior leadership lacks knowledge, understanding, and ability to manage people and their departments. As Aetna continues to merge Coventry to Aetna, mistakes continue, abuse of employees because management won't listen or implement proper changes. Continue to do things the wrong way. I shudder to think what will happen once Humana is acquired. Just watch for more loss of jobs. Big overseas training initiate going as I write this. People in these other countries can work for a lot less and it will show.

Perhaps you're confused, you must be one of those "higher-ups" that keep secrets and don't like to tell employees anything about what is going on with the company. That's what Aetna's motto is, be tight-lipped about everything. You probably shouldn't be posting on here, since you are a manager/supervisor of some sort, since its obvious you are defending them.

Funny. I was laid off March 15, 2016. Aetna claimed due to client lossage. I'm still collecting unemployment. Aetna never lays off...HA! That's a false statement right there. I have to say, I'm glad to be out of there!

You're exactly right, we don't lay people off we eliminate their jobs silently. I had to do it for 4 of my hard working employees 2 weeks ago. I have been with Aetna for just over a year and I've never seen such horrid lack of good leadership skills or dysfunction. I'll be moving on soon, I will go to a company with some integrity. But, make no mistake, the silent job eliminations will continue, and no one will ever be accountable, til the whole company fails. I can't wait to watch and laugh as she goes down, with all the imbred terrible leaders with her.
