Let's talk about the experience of the VP of the Creative Department. Human Resource experience is the foundation of Creativity, apparently.
I agree with the person below. I worked in the creative department and the one thing that was lacking was the leadership experience for design and trends in the creative world. I mean you had directors / managers in positions that had no business being promoted other than the fact of seniority with the company and some without a design or creative degree. If Cabela's promoted the right way based on performance and metrics ,that creative department would be top notch, in fact a lot of those people should work somewhere else because they are way more talented then what Cabela's needs.
I am glad to see the topic in print but I come from a time of investigative journalism. When a company says they can't "pin down the numbers" you know full well they have a head count. Not only does Nathan J. Borowski know exactly how many Cabela's employees had their jobs sold, but also is well aware of the few postings available through Quad. Did the journalist ask for an "estimate?" Did she pressure him for a count at all? I would also say it wouldn't be too difficult to go to the Quad website and hand count the amount of posting open in the Sidney area. They could've reported, "We counted ___ jobs open through Quad in the Sidney area on their website, though Nathan J. Borowski would not confirm if this is the final count of available jobs." Rumors on this site circulate around high numbers of 150+ people. You're telling me Nathan J. Borowski doesn't have the first idea of how many people they have on staff in their creative department? HOG WASH!
I also find their reasoning to be a huge slap in the face to the creative team. How do you tell your own team that they are outdated and not up to speed? Hey, management: your job is to keep your teams up to speed, not dump them off and pin the blame of your failed leadership on their backs. If your departments weren't up to speed it's because of the retards at the wheel.
The paper did the job of telling the story and spinning it in a positive light and releasing only what Cabela's wanted released, rather than looking in to the shadows to tell the actual story. I would've liked to see some investigative reporting done instead of another smoke & mirrors piece, but it coincides with what the community has come to expect from the local media.
