Why would they want Noble? No value, just hype.

spin off the Easter Med pipe dreams/assets and then sell or merge the rest. Eastern Med can go to Israel or to a private company. Other assets might be a good fit for Chevron or COP or BP or Marathon. More than likely a Chinese company would be interested. The a--hole triumvirate would get rich but at least the stock price would go up.
Stover et al would sell their grandmothers right now to keep the cash flowing into their pockets. The noble part of Noble left the premises a long time ago.
Another large independent buying Noble would be like a drowning man climbing on top of another exhausted swimmer in a last ditch effort to stay afloat. It would be pointless. No one will buy Noble outright. At best the more nimble sharks may tear off the meatier chunks and let the rest of the carcass sink to the bottom. Management will be happy to sell what they can and at bargain prices too for just one more breath of air.
Exxon buying Noble? I seriously doubt that! That's the first I've heard of that. Majors like Exxon are not interested in these high cost / marginal shale plays. Noble does not have enough quality assets to interest Exxon. Noble could be acquired but not by Exxon. It might be another larger independent such as Apache. They need a "White Knight" for sure.
