Grandpa is going nowhere. Grandpa is not updating his skills. Grandpa has to pay off the lake house.
Been 15 years in HAL. What a drastic change. From proud HAL, to shame HAL...
We only have one guy who has been here for 10 years a few at 5 years and the rest are around 2. All the new guys just want a pay check. Their response to processes is fire me.
I've been in the oilfield for over 35 years, and believe me it is time for the baby boomers to start moving aside. Why? Too many are change-adverse: "we done it that way for 30 years and by god I'm not going to change now!" Things like ignoring processes (and BTW causing service delivery problems because of it) and not mentoring younger employees mark the end of the useful working life of an individual. The best use for us now is to mentor others, share our experience with them, and support those who deserve it.
Far too many sad-sack whining old timers around, we'll be out of the picture soon enough as it is. Best advice: go out with grace and give to your successors. Didn't your "old guys" do the same for you when you broke out?
