Thread regarding University of Phoenix layoffs

People should be running for the doors. This pile is not going to "rise" from the bottom of the ocean. The Titanic / UOP will never be recovered

D day is coming and on the 28th it will mean freedom for a select few. The people chosen will be allowed to get on the lifeboat and cruise into the sunset. Regardless of a buyout or not, there is no saving this ship. You could hear the distress calls two years ago. Most had plenty of warning. Now it will slowly settle on the bottom next to Corinthian.

Save the bs, running every other paper through the plagiarizer checker does not make you a real teacher.

Camden, Alternative plans like what? You like to bash U of P. Are you in education? Do you know how difficult it is to get a full time teaching position at the college level? Adjuncts everywhere are taken advantage of, as you should well know. I was lucky to get this job. And I take it seriously. I do wish Phoenix would care more about student outcomes, but I teach the same kinds of students I have taught at community college, where graduation rates are also very low. I get angry when you basically call me predatory. No one I work with on the educational side of Phoenix does their jobs for predatory reasons. We care about students and work hard to educate them in the time we have with them.

@Worried, you may want to consider alternative plans because (1) the deal could be rejected by the shareholders or (2) if Apollo Global Managment does take over, there intent may be just to dismember the operation and sell the company as soon as possible. That's what vulture capitalists do.

I'm very worried about the layoffs of FTF, but I also can't say I am surprised ground campus instructors were let go when so many campuses are closing. I am surprised they didn't let the instructors transition into online FTF. It is very hard to get a full time faculty job at the college level. I don't want to think about what I'll do if I'm let go. All of the FTF I work with work hard and care about student outcomes. There is a reputation that we don't care, but this is not true. Students just need more remediation than is provided. I am hoping that the buyout will go through and will lead to positive changes that will help me help students more.

Students are really going to be affected as well as the good teachers who dedicated their time and efforts in hoping to turn around that school.

I heard FTF received only 8 days notice and a very low severance pay (4 weeks). I am shocked to hear how Phoenix handled the FTF departure.

As the Titanic sank the band played ' Nearer my God to Thee'. I would be wearing black or black arm bands and playing that song all next week what's the worst that could happen if they don't like the way you're dressed. Oh they might fire you? best of luck to everyone still left there keep your dignity. the students are going to see all of this they are not going to have the Personal Touch of real advisors for real teachers and everything's going on a mated. after they said their new phone system was because students wanted to talk to a warm body and get a voice on the phone. Another plan bites the dust. Tick tock.
