Thread regarding Mattel Inc. layoffs

in 2015 executive management gave a presentation about new priorities and a "vision" for the company. after that its been dead silence

the decline has been due to the promotion and installation of people in key positions of leadership whose only skill is politicking and blame shifting rather than actual product development knowledge and experience.

the leaders that actually had experience in product and development were replaced by yes men and women who sold the CEO countless processes and initiatives that served not the product nor the people but the insatiable appetite of the 15th floor for profits that were borne out of unsustainable practices.

the acquisition of broken companies, the adoption of PLM which anyone to this miserable day has yet to see an improvement in costs or efficiencies. i could go on and on. if you live and die by your product and you don't invest in it and would rather believe in snake oil peddled by outsiders then such is the result.

in 2015 executive management gave a presentation about new priorities and a "vision" for the company. after that its been dead silence. no follow up no update on how its being carried out, how priorities are being decided.

if they are actually doing something to the "vision" that they probably had marcomm create and charge a bazillion dollars for over weeks of crazy wordsmithing then they are doing a bang up job of communicating it. so how can one not just think that its just more lip service. its hard not to.

The simple truth is this: The best way to raise the bottom line is to raise the top line. Sr Mgmt has been leading in such a way as to be losing top line for too many years. Therefore, to maintain (somewhat) the bottom line, costs need to be removed.

For Mattel to regain her place as the top toy company in the world we need to raise the top line. That means great product, marketed well. However, we keep eliminating people who have the ability to create great product.

The good news remains for all at Dir level and above. You don't have to deliver, you just need to exist, spout buzzwords, and cut talented people due to their seniority and "high" wages. Get some recent grad in to work for half the pay and hope they can do what people with 20 year's experience could do.

Or don't worry about anything while you try to parlay your VP status at Mattel into a higher position at another company before your incompetence is revealed.
