Thread regarding Western Digital Corp. layoffs

How do you deal w/mental side of layoff?

Hi, I was laid off April 2015. I started my own company, doing pretty well.

But getting laid still wakes me up at night. My manager, who I thought was a friend, seemed so cold/uncaring at the layoff meeting. They seized my badge on the spot. I was standing on the sidewalk within a few minutes. No advance warning - all very good reviews. No goodbye lunch. No nothing.

So, I get it. The company has to lay people off. But what are your thoughts on putting it behind you mentally?

Buddy, I have been in your situation in the past in other companies. The part I hate about WD is that Management is keeping ultra quiet and not mentioning a word of what is going to happen. Yet,, they keep asking us to update what we have done the previous week. It is time workers band together and start raising voices. The tendency for people to worry against speaking up, is that the next company is not going to hire them. But looks like companies dont want to hire any engineers unless they are under-30. So might as well speak up.
