Last year my U.S. Cameron plant first layed off 40 percent of the programmers and then made that 40 percent of reduction up several months later by bringing programmers from India over here to the US for around $16,000 a year wages on work visa's, The plant programming manager (national origin: also from India) said they were behind in programming and needed to bring the India people over to help out. Then less than 4 months later, the plant layed off another 33 percent of their American programmers and kept all the programmers from India. I'm told signing away your rights to sue for this ARE part of receiving the severance package that you'll need to live off of until you find a new job. Now thats integrity from a company that preaches integrity, Cameron Cares ( if NOT MUCH counts).

India screws up everything they work on. This causes hours of rework by the ones that should have be doing the work in the first place. It takes them 3 times longer to get the job done on top of that.
How to ruin a company. Indians have no creativity, only task oriented and looking to please their boss over any real productivity. Ask Badri. A real dud.
There are also small groups from CMI (India) coming over to learn design details about almost every job there is, and are doing detailed design work, FEA etc. It is no longer just a place to get drawings converted and management pushes for a greater percentage of work to be done there each year. Right now they are mostly our overflow help but over time that can radically change.
It's purely a business decision. When you have the Harvard mba and are running the show, then you can reverse the decision.
Eventually they will all go back home so the work can be outsourced to them eliminating all the local positions. What they are doing right now is training the staff for the future outsourcing. Many companies doing it. It is the future of IT. Simple fact is the cost basis is much lower.
Cameron cares alright, they just don't say about what. My guess is that the care about profits only.
