Thread regarding ConocoPhillips layoffs

All who you know

Sometimes, unfortunately, it's all about who you know. If you were a kissass to the right person, or had the "right" goals maybe you're still safe. Even though you may be a hard-working , dedicated employee, that may not be enough. I've seen this happen at Conoco, they lay off a bunch of hard-working individuals, yet they'll keep some of the biggest slackers and people that know nothing. It's all about who you know and if you said the right thing at the right time.

asskissing won't last forever for sure, but it will last longer than those hard-working dedicated ppl, this is especially true in Conoco, in my whole life in this industry, i never seen a company worse than Conoco. I mean you know for sure this kind of thing happens in every company, but in Conoco you wouldn't expect anything else

A lot of good people have already been let go. Don't give me this sh-- that "this time a lot of good people will be let go" you must think highly of yourself or the folks around you, dumbass. Some people are leaving because the were courteous enough to tell them that their number is up.

asskissing only works for so long these low prices will outlast that asskissing. The fat must be cut.

This is very apparent in one BU where the upper manager is trying to blackball one of the superintendents to make room for his buddy, who happens to be Canadian. Should have been sent back long ago.

I agree. The sad thing about this though, is that for each person who is connected, they have to get rid of one worker who is not. As a result, a lot of good people are let go.
