Thread regarding Mattel Inc. layoffs

Grim Prospects

There's no doubt that Mattel is a new low in terms of morale and potential. What's scary is that we're headed lower. Layoffs, people just not caring, arrogant leadership, reduced salaries, bonuses, benefits. Employees are actually hoping the company fails. It's amazing how this giant fell apart in just 2 years. Textbooks will document this process. Like it or not, we are witnessing history. It's hard to imagine the place turning around fast enough to save itself.

Rough crowd out there on this thread, but again, because it's true.

It's true that some people who should have gone are no longer here like Voss, Strom, Sun, Kilpin, Wadleigh etc. but the others are still here.

ClicheDown, Wrong Way, Kim C, M Alford, Goodman, Freak Bro Twins, G Carlson, and more all under R Dicksons blessing so I really question his judgement going forward.

This reminds me of that Italian Captain that ran aground his cruise ship on a reef and was at a bar on the mainland having a cocktail while people were drowning.

Every man for himself, forget the women & children. Ouch.

the company is run by f--s and motherless hags. All without a clue and getting their due on the broken backs of the once inspired hopeful youths who believe the bullshit they spew. so grab your ankles, or spread those cheeks, there's multiple ways for you to survive, best to drop down on your knees and offer to swallow your directors pride.

The good ship Mattel is on strategy, on target, and on course, plying the high seas with its valuable cargo of must-have, high-tech game changers. So fear not, for the headwinds and rough seas that have recently slowed our progress are but brief, fleeting events. Rest assured, our learned captains are faithfully, diligently and wisely plotting the directional tweaks necessary to best navigate 'round yonder anomalies with all dispatch. Stay the course, in due time we shall once again reign victorious. Your captains are preparing the laurel wreaths to crown your heads, even as we speak!

NOT.

In my opinion this company didn't fall apart in just two years. I was there over 3 decades & it took it least approx. 10 years from what I saw. It was slow, but sure decay in upper mismanagement. Once the really bad/useless/no talent/can't make a decision mismanagement Design wise got in power by groveling, the slide quickly increased speed to where it is now.

You have to remember that Design/Product is the backbone of this place. Failed, cost reduced, crap product equals no sales, no profit.

It's now the worst it's ever been which is why the morale is also @ an all time low. I guess we just have to wait & see what happens before April 4th which is not far away. I know for a fact that several years ago some higher paid people with a longer tenure had to either take a pay cut or get whacked.

Hold on to your butts...........:)

Things seem bleak, but they aren't that bad. Mattel is still a $5B company that is profitable. It isn't like we're losing a Billion a year. It just isn't as profitable as those holding stock and stock options want it to be. It can be saved by competent management.

Hacking off half of the layers of inverted triangle would go a long way toward fixing things. No company needs as many layers of VPs, or as many VPs , as we have. Stop the nonsense, concentrate on core brands, and weed out the non-value-add management, and replace them with people who know the business and care about the product and not simply numbers. If the product is great the numbers take care of themselves.

Funny, the inverted triangle that represents the colossal management structure at Mattel is also the symbol that many of the Velvet Mafia would proudly wear (if colored pink). Someone should tell them that just because it might be seen as a good symbol in one sense doesn't mean it is always a good thing.
