Thread regarding Halliburton Co. layoffs

How to reply when the Unemployment folks ask if you're being paid for vacation?

Got canned on Feb. 25 and trying to file for TX unemployment. They ask if you're currently getting vacation pay. Supposedly I am...22 days of it. Does that mean that I can't collect unemployment for another month?

There is also the wait-week. Lets suppose you got laid off. Halliburton paid you for your vacation (two weeks), one week severance (for one year of service), and two weeks (in lieu of a typical two weeks notice).

The result would be three weeks of pay/benefits would be withhold by Texas Unemployment and another weeks which they call wait/holding week. So all in all, you might not get any benefit payments till the sixth week. I know it sucks, but something is better than nothing.

No, you just can't claim unemployment for the week that you received the money in your bank-no matter how much you received-it only counts for that week. The same is true for your severance payment. That's how it worked in Wyoming and yes, they checked.

Finally got through to someone at TX Unemployment and here is the answer in case any of you have the same question: "No". A post-termination payout of unused vacation does not constitute receiving vacation pay during a given claim week.
