Thread regarding Halliburton Co. layoffs

And so it continues, Landmark goes away, drip, drip, drip...

33 years in the industry ended today. At Landmark they have just kept letting a few more go every couple of weeks, a long and slow slide, and today was my turn. Brutal the way the industry is contracting. Hard to see myself trying to get back into oil and gas again.

I'll never understand why Naj was hired. Naj did not have experience with O&G software. Now Landmark is a sinking ship.

The only reason the current batch of Landmark Management are still employed with the company is because HAL Management are too wrapped up trying to save their skin by getting the Baker merger done. They have taken their eye off the ball and don't have a clue how poorly the PSL has been run since Nag and his band of offshore thieves have hijacked the sinking ship.

I would hire any senior developer from LMK anytime!

Move to Silicon Valley!

Is Landmark up for sale? A very drastic reduction of headcount is one possible reason that LMK may be up for sale..

Somewhere in the neighborhood of 15-20 were let go in Denver. All very good people and a lot of experience sent packing (hint-hint!)! Sure hope mgmt knows what they are doing.

Look, LMK has been trying to make money with continued support for their software simply because the software sux so bad, it requires continued support.... what a perfect business model, until the market goes to sh--. But hey, keep having your high dollar "events"...

Software innovation at Landmark was killed in July 2, 1996 and got worse when part of Landmark software R&D was outsourced to India.

Yep. Everyone is just waiting for their turn. Landmark is a horrible company, with no direction and bad software.

Whatever your role was at Landmark, you DO have transferable skills and can get a job in another industry. You may have to take a small pay cut in exchange for them taking a chance on you, but there will still be an upside. Take advantage of the outplacement service and capitalize on the things you know and can do, that other industries would pay you for. The logistics of searching for a job in the 21st century are a lot easier than in the last century, the last time I looked for a job. I got cut 2 weeks ago and already have had several phone interviews, plus a "second interview" today.

Check out LinkedIn and Glass Door, which allow you to search for jobs but don't require you to post a resume if you don't want to. Good luck!

Anyone over 50+ years old is a layoff target. I was let go 2 weeks ago. I'm taking early retirement. No debt. No credit cards payments, no mortgage payments, no car payments, no student loans, etc. Life is too short. enjoy it while you can. Live below your means and pay yourself first (save for your retirement).

Yep.... After 39 1/2 years was let go Friday. Worked at Sperry for 32 years, Drill Bits for 3 and the remaining time for Landmark. One of the few who actually understood what and why those numbers that get entered in the software little white text boxes stood for. Oh well, this is the 5th downturn I've seen and by far the worst. Like was mentioned earlier, I too will probably not return to the oil patch. It was long good ride but time to hang up the saddle. Here's wishing all survivors the best of luck. With all the old timers being let go you have some mighty big boots to fill!
