“Even the bathrooms will have a touch of technology in them,” said Shira Goodman, president, North American Operations. “Customers will walk in and envision what the future would be.”
And that is? No pun intended. A pile of poop.

STFU Vinnie and go back to trimming your porn stache
Idiots. It's a working showroom not a retail store. Has been a huge success thus far, 100's of customers have walked through and it has helped get sales in every line of business. This board is full of non factual bs from mostly low level retail workers.
When they did the big assistant manager layoff a few year ago. They told us that the future is 250 showcase stores with everything else online order. They are keeping true with that idea.
Shira Goodman will help take the company to unforseen lows. Demos had two things she doesn't, a brain and a personality.
This is hilarious....
Toys R Us tried to do this years ago - (not talking about their Times Square store that failed also).
They set up a prototype showcase store in Livingston, NJ. to bring retail analysts, press, major shareholders etc. They had exclusive items (playmobile , lego sets, etc) that could only be bought in that store (or online) and had demonstrators and people singing on karaoke machines, the works, it was like a carnival. They basically tried to turn TRU into FAO Schwartz (which they bought out).
Every time the CEO (John Eyler, who had just defected from FAO to TRU after receiving a huge retention bonus) brought people through the store he demanded that DMs send GMs from other stores down to help out. There were literally 30 or so middle aged men (and a few women) pretending to be minimum wage retail employees, just to impress reporters and wall street analysts, who were not fooled by the dog and pony shows.
Hopefully Staples has something else in mind with their "showcase" store, but one well staffed store with all the bells and whistles won't make up for 1300 others that are to short staffed to both help customers and stock shelves.
If you walk in and it's where a Staples bathroom use to exist you will not only see the future, you will be in the present in most cases :-) Kinda feels like H.G Wells Time Machine.
By "touch" of technology I think Shira means very small hidden cameras.
What a waste....this is what they laid off all these people for? just stupid
