Last week we received notification in our assignment office of VTP (Voluntary Termination Package) being offered. Although this may be good for the few that were planning on retiring within the coming year, it's brings a lot of uncertainty to the rest of the department. It's bad enough that for the last few years there have been assignment contractors working offshore in Manila, just assigning orders, but we are now also told they will start taking calls from field tech's, a function that was only handled by those workers in the United States previously. After our meeting a month ago with one of the mid-level managers in the company, where we were assured there were no plans to close our office, AT THAT TIME, it has become apparent, that that outlook has changed within a month's time. I say this because at the same meeting with that mid level manager, he also told us that the company would not be replacing anyone that retired, or left the company and that he had been the manager over the Carlisle, Pa, programming office, and when the headcount at that office got to a certain level, they couldn't justify keeping the office open.........SURPRISE!!!!, that's exactly how this will play out in my opinion. It's bad enough that the company cares so little about their customer's that they have to call and speak to people that are almost impossible to understand, but let's look at the REAL picture here. If the job is done outside the US, then US labor laws are not in play, such as a minimum wage, a 40 hour work week, time and a half after 40 hours, and providing benefits such as healthcare, because they will not be forced to comply under the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare)............and then what you'll see is the upper management people give themselves even bigger bonuses for saving the company so much money......the bottom line is it's disgraceful, and the American worker is completely forgotten, and unfortunately, the politicians won't say anything because the lobbyists make sure they're taken care of. Time to start looking for another job CenturyLink worker.....and as for me, I'll get my service elsewhere. And a word of advice to CenturyLInk.........after you've angered enough customer's that they leave and go elsewhere, you don't have wireless to fall back on, like Verizon and AT&T do, so you'll be on a path to self destruction
