This is pretty interesting, because most of my problems at Staples can be traced back to a day when police were in my store and interviewing people. I had to give vital stats, including my birthdate. DM and GM were also in the office while this occurred (no I did not commit the crime they were investigating).

They apparently were unaware of my age, although it was likely in my file. Soon after, I had to go on light duty, I had the Dr. note etc, and I still did my regular duties, it was pretty much a formality.

Next thing I know I get a crappy eval , and had not received any mid year eval, and then a PIP, after over a decade of good evals.

The best approach remains age discrimination/wrongful dismissal. Based on what I have read this has the best chance of success in California but would effect all nationwide when won. Age by the way means anyone over 40, not what many assume. HR is aware of this and very sensitive to it. Always remember HR exists to protect the company from lawsuits, not protect the employees....

Collect all the evidence you want. People did that against my manager and HR turned a blind eye to it. His managers defended his happy 4$$ for years.

Want a good csat buy a burn phone. I knew a g.m. that collected receipts from the trash used a burn phone to process. He finished in the high 90s. Face it any one doing that well is cheating

According to my lawyer: not getting 90's on CSAT is not a disability, even though my DM said it was.

Generally, a hostile work environment has to include elements of harassment based on religion, gender, race, age, disability, sexual preference, etc. I recall someone telling me an account manager sued Staples based on racial discrimination and won. Somewhere in the Midwest I believe. Could probably Google it if I had time but I'm not sure of the details.

Just the fact that the talk to people like they do shows they don't even give a shit.

Otis visited a store that did reasonably well, but had some dips in their CSAT scores.

One month they would be in the high 80's, the next in the 60's.

After preaching the importance of customer service to the "bidness", Otis says "getting good scores half the time is not acceptable .... if your husband cheated on you half the time , would you find that acceptable?"

Start collecting evidence. Record all conference calls and visits from DM and up, print threatening emails, etc. Basically treat it like people treat interactions with police now days.

There was a LP manager in region one that was on a conference call and caught a load of flak. I can't remember what topic he was ranting about, though I believe it was something to do with ESP, which really is not even his concern.

He said something like "if this behavior continues there will be bodies on the floor".

Several GMs on the call contacted HR, they gave him a lip service warning. More GMs called, and a few weeks later the LPM was fired. The LPM that took over that district audited every store the next month and purposely failed most stores.
