The layoff is just another way to outsource engineering to India... I work in EMC, and same thing just happened. They laid off a group here in Jan and this week, 20+ new hires in India.

Regarding the original poster - I work at EMC too and I can attest to the fact that we had layoffs in Jan., had a hiring freeze because of the acquisition by Dell, cannot hire replacement if people in the Santa Clara office leave for another job, yet EMC hired 20+ engineers for the file systems team in ICOE.
NTAP ramped up a large engineering force in India back in 2003 or so and look what good that did.
Don't make things up about outsourcing engineering work to India. Netapp Bangalore had a big layoff.
