Thread regarding NetApp (formerly Network Appliance Inc.) layoffs

Cleaned out my desk, ready for what happens on 3/1!

I cleaned out my desk on Friday and am not coming back in until I know that NetApp has a permanent place for me and several of the other members of my team. I've got several interviews in process with one "sure thing" nailed down.

Thanks to everyone on this board who helped me see the early signs. Hopefully I'll be one of the ones who gets a severance package on Tuesday. My other opportunities are willing to work with me to make sure that I collect as much money from NetApp as possible.

I strongly suggest everyone else do the same.

I'm all packed up. I planned on leaving in a few months so being layed off will be a great gift ! So many sad and anxious faces this week . I am looking forwards to be done .

Confirmed with a VP in engineering that hardware group will take a hit.

There is a big push now within NetApp is leveraging whitebox / ODM solutions.

Just look at Solidfire -- someone else's hardware!

Sounds to me like hardware development could take a hit as well. If not in this round of reductions, certainly the next. The big guy has no love for expending resources to develop hardware when it can be bought off the shelf. "We are a SOFTWARE COMPANY" after all!!

Sales over lays will be hit hard. Not the actual sales teams but the layers of sales supporting personal.

@GbieXmt-csr - from one of the previous all hands meetings, sounded like sales/QA were gonna take a heavy hit. Guess we'll find out tomorrow if thats true.

I cleared mine out also. With friends in level one it was easy to get a copy of the powerpoint showing the vertical model they are switching to. I believe the only safe position to have is in sales. NetApp upper management loves their sales people!
